Personally, I won a tourney with a 8.2lb big bass on Lake Athens took our club's Calcutta pot more than $800 at the time. The next day my partner and I won a match play event on Joe Pool. Both wins almost exclusively on DS. No, they weren't exactly the Classic but you didn't say what tourney. There have been many, many more won in our state with the DS. But I really like how much hate there is for this technique.

The last tournament I won was at Bonham. 16+ lbs all caught on a dropshot. It was the same rig I use at Fork that accounted for 4 overs the last season we fished JC Outdoors. You can catch DD bass on 8 lbs flouro. and a #1 size hook. Not 1/0, #1.

I figured there was some who have done it. The question was "why not drop shots?" My guess is they don't win many tournaments in Texas. Not saying it can't be done but I think it's rarely done. And that's why not dropshots. Not everyone here fishes tournaments but those that do probably don't think of it as a tournament winner. Unless you are on fork fishing for small fish.

I'm have no doubt there have been quite a few tournaments won on drop shots.. It's not a tournament technique I get excited about having to resort to but usually keeping yearly points race in mind, I've learned not to have it far away. I've had two tournaments that I was lucky enough to win and the drop shot accounted for 4 out of five fish each time. Once it caught the kicker once it didn't... But there are much better anglers with a lot more tournament wins than myself and that's only two out of a millions tournaments that many others so that's not a whole lot of ammo.

This past week on Fork I was catching quality fish on MUCH larger baits that evening and then as it got dark and I was going to leave I caught the biggest of the day on a stupid drop shot... Can't help but to shake your head and smile.

Not my favorite, but every bait is a tool.. thumb

I agree with you to some extent. It's not the most effective technique for big fish and it is limited to certain types of cover, and this is Texas, so the majority of fishermen are fishing shallow. There's nothing I love more than pulling fish out of 30 feet of water on a dropshot, so it's been effective for me.

There's nothing special about my rig. I just fish it as a real finesse technique. Medium-light spinning rod, 6-8 lbs flouro, #1 Gammy DS hook and a 1/8-1/4 oz tungsten DS weight. I always fish a bait that looks more suitable for crappie than bass. You should've seen the look on Marc Mitchell's face the first time I pulled out my DS rig. He thought I was crazy....for about 2 casts.

Yes you can. I've tried everything. I've even used floating Rapalas on a DS. Just not with the success that I've had when I keep it small and simple.
