^^ this is a common example of someone making a biased response based off of norm. Yes the norm is small fish on dropshots and shakey heads. The "limit filler" so to speak. Lets be realistic though. How many BIG bass have you caught on BIG baits vs. the number of small bass on small to med sized baits. I caught a 9.2 and 11.6 on fork in dead of summer on 4" ring fry. Are you implying that big bass are less likely to entertain smaller finesse style baits such as drop shots? Drop shot and shakey head fill more limits and get anglers more checks than any other bait. Why? Because an angler can go to a new lake, totally blind, and catch fish on them. Easily. And what do we do when we catch a few fish on a new lake? We establish a pattern, tweak the pattern, play with colors, come to generalizations, and then we are on something. Everyone has their anchor techniques. I used to be run and gun. Discipline taught me how to be more successful on the water, not stubbornness. You HAVE to be multi-dimensional. I hate to pitch a jig....don't know why, just don't like it. I still carry 40-50 assorted jigs in my boat!! Because they work!!

I hope that isn't the norm, people would rather not fish than use a drop shot. . .that's someone who doesn't really care about fishing that much. I would dropshot a crappie jig with a hotdog on in 60 feet of water with 100lb braid if that's what was getting bit. I just want to catch fish. . .

I got turned on to the drop shot last march, and have had one tied on every time since then. I was bed fishing with Cody Malone a couple weeks ago...we worked one fish for over an hour without success. He pulled out his drop shot and hooked the fish in one or two attempts. This was a very large fish (ended up wrapping him around a stump), but we saw it clearly and it was huge. I am a firm believer in the drop shot, but it is still not my go to setup.
fatty has more posts than you. I have more beer in my garage right now than you!

Dropshot is my go to. It took about a year of fishing it to dial it. Set up is key for me. I use 7ft med FAST w/ 30lb braid, and about a 25ft flouro leader. Fishes great in any depth, just change your weight size. You can fish it fast, slow, dead stick, swim it, etc. All around most versatile presentation in my box

Everyone has their favorite techniques and things they just do not like to throw. Pitching a jig is my favorite followed by C-rigging and throwing a shaky head. I also like drop shotting as well as many other techniques.
One I do not like because for some reason my bite to cast ratio is way to low is a wacky rigged trick worm. I get better with other techniques so I quit using a wacky rigged trick worm. It just does not work that well "for me". I know others love throwing this and do well with it. I do better with a shaky head or Tx. rigged worm.

Other than Fork, how many of y'all have won a tournament in Texas on a dropshot?

I don't fish it as much as I used too. On Fork, you have to know how to fish it to be successful in tournaments. Other than that, it is good to fill a limit and that's about it. I've had a few good fish around here on it, but not like on Fork.

I'm not fan of spinning reels so the drop shot rig doesn't get used much by me.
Anyone attempt to drop shot on a baitcast reel with a medium action rod? I would like to hear opinions on this.

Anyone attempt to drop shot on a baitcast reel with a medium action rod? I would like to hear opinions on this. I throw it exclusively on baitcasting tackle and use it for flipping & Pitching wit heavy flouro.....pinpoint accuracy, and the most versitale approach Ive ever used pitching. I can pitch it a long ways. low amount of splash. You can over shoot your target burn it to the target near the top and kill it next to your target. The bait stays in place as long as you want.(very stealthy approach) also, I believe its the least snaggy set up on my deck. I havent used it much around grass but it is terrific around stumps! Big fish LOVE it! I use as big a hook as I want and texas rig the plastic.

Tawakoni last year. Had two fish by 1:30. Pulled up on some deeper water structure......same spot I had already hit twice with dd22 and swim bait.....busted out the drop shot with 5" trick worm and boom. 2nd cast 3 pounder, 3 cast 2 pounder, 5th cast 5.33. That's 10 lbs in 5 minutes on a day I couldn't buy a good bite. I caught all three fish I marked when I passed over the structure.
