Ok I had to try it and I thought it was very good. Didn't work out as well with catfish. I think it was something about the fat in the meat. I will definitely cook crappie like this again.

Do Bream taste much different than Crappie? very similar , with firmer flesh ..... they fry up pretty quick and easy 7 inchers and up work well ..... run a spoon vigorously from the tail to the gills .... when scales are gone fillet em..... about 4 fish to a person = 8 lil mini fillets each .... multiply times people eatin .... and that sir is a limit

I do like some battered fish occasionally,,,looks good Thanks
One thing I might add..like onion rings, the batter will stick better if the fillets are very lightly dusted in flour before dipping.. Radtexan is right, dusting the fillets with flour before dipping them in batter will make the batter stick much better when you're frying them. Also for a little variety add a little Cajun Spices (too taste).

I cooked some crappie yesterday with this batter & they came out real nice. I normally use flour/cornmeal mix but decided to try this & it was good for a change. I think this batter would be good on onion rings as well. Next time I think I'll add a little Tony Chachers for a little extra kick!
A bad day on the lake is much better than a good day at work!

Say, I tried the recipe, have to say I enjoyed it...our family of four was split 50/50 on yours versus an old southern recipe that I use quite a bit....I am going to play around with this recipe some...
Say, I am going to see how the leftover fish melds in a pot of gumbo tomorrow!!..Will let you in on what I come up with.
Thanks again for sharing the recipe.

The best onion rings are made with flour and enough salt. dip'em in eggs, put'em in the bag, drop'em in the grease...cook till light brown, and eat them while they are hot. Nothing else, period....I have tried every thing else and that is the only way to make fantastic onion rings...so good, I don't even make hushpuppies any more.
