Started my son out around 4 years old….and now he is 11 and our 2nd year fishing in the Forney Bass Club…we got 5th last week at Hubbard and was in the money, and you want to talk about a kid talking smack to the other fishmen….he also is now the live well checker in the morning before the tournaments….he loves to fish and will fish right beside me the whole tournament 8 or 9 hours….and he thinks we are just fishing

Made that mistake but once, and my daughter Ari wouldn't let me forget that for awhile (kid is too smart for her own good)...I got back in her good graces, and now she enjoys it alot more (we both do), sometimes I get it handed to me, and she will let me know about it...she is now 9, started taking her before she turned 5, if I remember correctly..

My son was out on the boat with me before he ever set foot into this world, LOL. We have had him fishing since he was just a few months old, and he has loved every min of it, he is now 4. Everytime we go out together I make sure and put my own wants and needs aside and make every trip about him. I never thought I could have so much fun going to a lake and never taking a rod out of the box. Some of our best days are going to the lake lot and catching bream of the dock all evening. I could go home right now and ask him what he wants to do or talk about and he'll say fishing. It's absolutly awesome! Now I will say though taking him out the first few times I was a nervous wreck, I don't think I ever payed that much attention to boat details or stay that close to the bank, LOL.

Ive got a pic I took last month of my boy after fishin in the heat all day. Wish I could figure the post a pic thing out but it shows him sittin on a tackle box wanting to go hit some more boat docks. I was beat and in the water at the time I took the pic. Maybe someone can post it its funny, weve been fishin since he was in diapers lol. First time he and his sister talked me into going fast I thought he was gonna blow outta the boat like a coke can lol. So with that said take it slow until they get some weight on there bones!

The trick is to start them at a pond or on the lake when you know there is action, start them out with small perch, were they can catch a lot with out a lot of waiting. This keeps them excited, then move up to the bigger fish, still with some action and then graduate from there. this worked well with the little guys and girls and it will make them want to stay with it. We need to groom hooked them to keep the love of the sport going for generations to come. Good luck and have fun.

I started my daughter and son when they were 2. They always had a blast. Now my 3 granddaughters love it too. All 3 at about 2 years old. My oldest granddaughter 17 fillets as well as I do now! Bonus

I was taking my daughter at 18 months, she would last about 30 minutes before getting bored and wanting to go in.

She is 3 1/2 now and can stay out for a couple of hours. I found taking minnows in a bucket entertains her...

While their still in the womb. Seriously had wife fishing when she was expecting. The kids started out early fishing with me, snoopy rods caught a lot of brim and they have been hooked ever since.

My boys started on the bank at 2 and they get in the boat at 3. You just have to remember when they are with you, it's all about them. Many times I won't even fish and just help them. My 8 year old started throwing a baitcast at 6. All my 4 year old talks about is fishing. My 3 year old is getting ready for his first trip on the boat.....Get them started ASAP......And enjoy the time.

+1 I agree, I started both my kids early but kept it short starting with live bait for perch then bass, by the time they were 8 they were using baitcasters and doing it all by themselves, just have to remember they have short attention spans at that age so an hour or two then a trip to mcdonalds or the ice cream shop to follow will have them hooked

Landed my first fish (bluegill) solo at age 2, my dad says. Landed my first bass solo at age 4 with no help and it weighed 2 pounds. Never too early, but landing a fish solo does require some weight and strenght in yourself so just keep that in mind smile

Well I took him to a pond yesterday and we caught some perch it was fun watching him with the fish but he lost interest in about 30 minutes or so.I know he liked it because when we got home he ran to his mom and said "FIIISHY" I think I'll wait a little longer to take him again though.
