My son is about to be 2 he is starting to talk alot and he loves getting in the boat and playing with all my lures or as he calls them "lulus" .I want to take him so bad but something makes feel like it is not the best ideal yet. So what age did y'all start taking your kids.

I think you can never start too young, as long as you keep it fun and short and entertaining. FYI my daughter was using baitcasters by age 7, not great but she had her moments

Doug has a good point especially with the costs of gas and beer being what they are. I took my Daughter with me a the age of 2 a few times. She enjoyed watching and getting to touch the fish. She's 3 almost 4 now and still likes to get in the boat. She's got a few small poles and is learning to cast a little. I figure by next summer she'll be able to actually try to fish a little instead of just watching. Either way she likes going anyways.

Start now and it gets better everytime. Been taking my son since he was 2 now he loves it. And he will go all day when its not too hot out. Now he reals them in and gets my beer.

30, that way he can buy gas and beer. HAHA, why wait till then, why not 21?? As far as the original topic, my dad started taking me fishing when I was 3, maybe 4. We started out on the bank so I could go explore, etc. when the fish weren't biting. After I took to it and could sit still, we started going on shorter trips on the boat, then gradually built up. I have no kiddos yet, but this way worked for me and will be the way I introduce my kids. Just my opinion.

Mine is 22 months old and now hates his lifejacket. We tried for a couple hours 2 weeks ago and he was miserable. I think 4 is gonna be about the right time for us.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Mine is 7, and has been going for 3 years. Last spring we were on the brazos and were catching some crappie, I was done at 5pm (on the water at 6:30am), told him it was time to o and he cried..... We stayed until 8.
He has started using a bait caster some, but at times reverts back to a zebco. We haves blast, and he's turning into one of my favorite people to fish with. Make it fun, be patient, and enjoy.

"If you've quit learn'n, you might'as well quit fish'n cuz yer not catch'n as many fish as ya should be!"

I started my son out at 3. He's four years old now, has 4 Junior Lake Records, fishes a Baitcaster and could probably win a Jig Pitching contest against most adults. In case you cant tell I'm pretty darn proud of him!! Its a lot of work but watching them light up when they hook a big one or stand around telling big fish stories like an adult is one of the greatest joys of my life!!!
