My son is 5 weeks and his mother didn't approve of the rod and reel in his hands. Much less the fishing baits he was playing with. Lol

I have been taking my son to some local ponds around my house for a few years. I have him fish for sunfish and I fish for Bass. When I hook up one I let him reel it in and he has a blast. He is always talking about outfishing his dad because I catch 4 or 5 bass and he catchs 20 or 30 sunfish. He even told me on the last trip that he wanted to fish my next tourn with me so he could win some money. I tell him I weing in 5 fish and he said he could win it for me because he catchs WAY MORE then that. Gotta love kids minds, keeps me laughing all day. He just turned 9. Here is one he catch a while back. I never can remember how to post pics on here. Maybe someone can repost with it in the message. http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/ac91/duncan0553/Graysonfish.jpg

I would reccomend for their own comfort to get a comfortable life vest instead of those uncomfortable orange dinasours for them. Otherwise they won't ever want to go again with you. Also let them do what they want more or less while out. Remember they are just kids. They don't need to be doing serious fishing the whole time. Try to do bream or crappie for a while before bass fishing. I used to let mine play in the boat and they would just reel in my fish when I hooked them. Last but not least don't stay out too long, and always stop by the local stop and go on the way home for a treat.

My 3 daughters were fishing by the age of 2. My youngest had her first boat ride at 6 mts. They all love it and they all take turns fishing tournaments with me. Never gets old watching them catch fish.

Take him now. Just don't expect them to want to stay all day like we do. Kids have a short attention span and you can't expect them to fish intently for hours. Fishing can be work as we all know. Take em to the dock and let em catch perch for starters and never make em stay past when they wanna leave. You can burn out a kid on fishing pretty easily if you're not careful.

I have been taking my grandson fishing and exploring since he was 3 years old. He is now almost 5 and loves to go fishing and exploring anytime that I get the chance to take him.

I started taking my son when he was about 3 but we would also beach the boat and play in the water. Let him take some toys to play with so he doesn't want to go home because he's bored. My son's 7 now and pitched a fit because I went a couple of weeks ago with a buddy and he didn't get to go. I'm looking forward to getting my 2yr old daughter out next Spring. She loves playing in the boat and I've given them used plastics to play with in the bath tub. Also, make sure to take plenty of water, juice boxes and snacks. I stil don't understand where my 7yr old puts all the food he eats when we're out fishing.

She didn't do any fishing ,but took my daughter in the boat one warm sping afternoon when she was 11 months. We set up the playpen in the middle of the boat. We were crappie fishing and a minnow fell off in her play pen . She picked it up and was sucking on it when we seen it. That is one of those stories that she hates to here. She is now 31

If it's truly about them, take them when they want to go, then go home when they have had enough. If you bring them with you when they are young and then keep them out there longer than they want, they won't want to go with you the next time.

That is a great question, my son is only 20 months old so not for a while but I do think about that a lot. Hopefully, sooner the better, then I can tell my wife the boat isn't big enough for both of us, we need to get a new one!
