Go to the sewing section at Walmart and buy a crochet needle. Around a buck. I put a cork on the end of mine to make it easier to find in the glove box. Guess you missed the beginning of this thread, Lucky we are here to let you know that! ;/)

Actually,I read/see it. I try that thumb method first. It doesn't always work, especially on braid. Then the crochet needle is the next step.

Learned that trick a couple of years ago, about the same time I bought my first baitcaster. Was worried about backlashes, but with this trick, in 2 years I've only had to cut line out twice. This works 99% of the time, and I mainly use 50# braid. I also use mono... both times I've had to cut line out it's been with mono. This trick isn't supposed to work good with braid, but it works for me!

This technique works great. I have also used it for years. Although, when it is 20 degrees outside for a week, no need to use it due to no casting. Ughhhhhh!

Taking a buddy fishing tomorrow... He backlashes a bunch, so I posted this on his FB page! He threw a rod overboard last time we went out!! Told him I didn't have a video to prevent that from happening!!! Friends are great!!

I just make a normal cast, then strip off about 10 more yards of line and put a 1 inch piece of electrical tape on the spool. Reel the line in on top of the tape and go fishing. If I do get a professional overrun, it only goes to the tape and can easily be cleared. An ounce of prevention...

Never thought about that. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Fishing a local pond yesterday I caught my carolina rig on a tree branch behind me during my backswing. Needless to say I didn't know that treelimb was there and when I cast forward all I heard was ZING and my reel exploded. Used this trick, took about 5 minutes but cleared this mess up nicely.

I have tried this technique and it works! Unfortunately I try it more often than I'd like. +1. So far its worked every time
