Try throwing a cast net near the jetties at Galveston & getting a shark snared in the net ... no fun for me or the fish.

On the subject of keeping gamefish caught in a throw net, one incident sticks in my mind. Using a cast net at a pay-to-fish dock & chatting with a game warden, who was interested in seeing what came up in the net. Couple young kids fishing for panfish just a little ways away.

Was getting some baitfish, and then up comes a 5-6# LMB. The kids see it & get excited, come running over ... when they realized I was about to throw it back, they asked if they could have it. I look at the GW with a silent question, he replied with a shrug & turned his back so he couldn't see. Before he left, he checked everybodys stringers except for those kids.

Moral lesson: fishing rules are made to be bent a little to make a kid happy. I guarantee if I'd tried to keep that fish for myself, the conversation would've been very different.

More than two 3" catfish in the dark will make you want to throw your net away more than a lil o snake.

Catching Game fish in a Cast net (or any net) is illegal.

Don't do that.

That will get you a ticket - and it's wrong,

Yep caught lot's of sports fish in nets "Thats Illeagal" - that's no way to catch fish - just let em go, -

It's wrong and Illegal,

Well, I guess the moral to the story is - if you're catchin' game fish in your cast net, then you know you're in the right spot for bait fish.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting on the water looking like a darn fool.

I have caught all kinds of fish in mine. I am glad I have not gotten a snake yet and I hope that never happens.

I have caught a size D bra from a neighborhood pond. Does that count as a keeper.

x100

Try not to turn snakes loose in the boat when I am there.

Nothing new to add to cast net catches, maybe because I stink at throwing a cast net. Brothers and I seining for bait in the San Saba river have caught many of the above, including multiple snakes at once. Then we realized we just waded right past them.

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

x2. Thier fins seems to be more serrated than the bigguns and stick to the net. PITA to get off without getting stuck!
