REVO backlash, well thats a user error. Not trying to be tacky, but most backlashes are due to the user regardless of the make of the real.
back to the original post - Take the real back, they have a great return policy.

My Extremes have held up well. All are 3-4 years old. At the time they were the best price for a 7.1:1 reel.

If you would please look on the bottom of the reel you will find wear it is made.
The older bass pro reels are made in korea, they have good quality
control, better than no quality control of the Chinese made reels.
Every Chinese reel I have bought have self destructed or have had problems due to poor quality.
So I will not buy Chinese reels again!
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

I got one of the Pro Qualifier spinning reels on clearance for $40 last month. It was my first 11 bearing reel (last time I bought a bunch of gear 5 bearings was top of the line) and I was plenty smitten with its smoothness.
However, upon closer inspection I found too much cheap plastic. The dealbreaker was...get this...a plastic line roller on the bail! WTF??? Yeah, it was plastic plain as day, with a thin layer of plating.
Checked the reviews for the reel on the BPS site and learned I was not the first to discover this disgrace. Yeah, I know the whole world is turning into plastic these days, but the line roller on a spinning reel? That's crazy talk.
Some other BPS reviewers actually managed to break the reel in half fighting fish. No deal, back to BPS I went to swap that croaker, plus a few more bucks, for a Shimano that I'm very happy with.
No more buying reels without reading reviews on here, BPS, and Cabela's.

I fished the Carbonlite combo all weekend it was very good! The Carbonlite reel is $119 at BPS. Even better....it's on sale for $89 for the next couple weeks. Extremes are down to $59 and for one day only the Tournament plus are being marked down from $79 to $39.

employees get 40% off those reels i was told. ive picked up the display models and didnt like the feel of them. i saw a gold calcutta look-a-like bass pro reel break after a 17# red was caught on it. shimano or diawa would be the way to go.

Uh, mebbe I am missing something, but the only JM models I am awrre of that end in 40) are spinning reels. JM stands for Johnny Morris. Since when does Shimano make a spinning curado? Or a Revo spinning? I have some of the Extreme and Pro Qualifer baitcast reels and they are okay, but they do not stand up year after yaer like the Shimano or Abu products. They MUST be maintained and serviced every year, if not 6 months.
Like they say, Take It Back and exchange it for some other reel. I do not have any of BPS spinning reels, but Johnny Morris is SUPPOSED to be a cut above their other stuff. Don't know. As mentioned above, you do not say WHAT the problem/s is/are. We cannot help diagnose anything with the statement you made.
Hope this helps.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Hi Bigdog,I agree with you and I wish every American spend money the way you did for the last 30 years(I guess you was born in 1956)30 years ago people prefer us made reel or France or Germany(Penn,Mitchell,Dam Quick)Daiwa was the low end reel but the Japanese can turn around and made the best now,not only reels but almost everything(sorry not speakers)30 years ago Chinese made junk and they still made junk now . The different is quality control that they learn from American but sadly many US company don't use quality control anymore.

i wouldnt buy a bass pro brand reel so i wasnt aware that the 40 refers to a spinning reel. more than 1 bass pro employee has told me they are overpriced and not as good as other comparable brands. and i wouldnt want to buy a $100 reel that employees may purchase for $60
