I was going to ask how he planned on getting it out because, well, they just don't spit them out when you ask.

And don't pick on Jarheads, results may vary. Especially if you tell them NOT to do something and one or more of your eyebrows are raised or your lips are curled.

[quote=Devildog28]Tell you what, come to the jetties with me this weekend, watch some asian pull in a shark, cut the fins off for their BS folk medicine and toss it on the rocks. Then tell me you don't get a little mad at the wasted fish and disrespect of our resources. I guess you think limits are a dumb idea because there's always going to be fish around no matter how much we keep?/quote]

I get a little mad at people who spend the time to whine about watching others desrespect our resources on message boards when they could have spend half the time calling 1.800.792.GAME. and doing something about it.

I haven't laughed this hard at any one topic in Lord knows how long. I love this forum and all the varied opinions and information. I definately joined the right group.

Bittercreek, seems you got em all stired up over a Tiger shark tooth...Who would have guessed it right?
It's all good. As I am also a Former Marine I don't hold your Army status against you, as a matter of fact I admire all who serve or have served. Though in the civilian world some are better than others as many forget their morals.(Not directed to anyone specifically)

Wishing you the best should you choose to endure the hunt for that tooth. Good to see that you never backed down.

Much respect.

Just a thought....

I'm just waiting to see the 'before & after' photos when he tries to pop that tooth loose ... my biggest shark was right at 300 pounds & there was no way I'd have gone after a tooth while it was still frisky!!

Good luck - let us know if you have to change your name to 'Lefty', 'thumbless' or 'Bit off more than he could chew' lol

I have an idea! I just remembered seeing a tv show on the diet of sharks and when they caught them they would sit on their back and pull the sharks nose up then insert a (? how long) piece of PVC in the mouth. Then they would stick their hand through the tube and all the way down into their gullet and grab whatever was in there and then study it for some reason. I guess if you'd really need a tooth this would be the "safest" method.

Still....more balls than I care to buy pants for. My luck would be to buy "one off" pvc and then you'd have to call me Lefty.

The chances of successfully catching a Tiger here in Texas is pretty rare for the begginer and a huge success for the seasoned fisherman. The best chance would be the south portion of Padre Island National Seashore. Now that you have a Tiger on the sand the chances of getting out a tooth is also going to be hard. The chances are the tooth will break off rather than pulling out easily. I'm all for giving it a try. Post some pics smile

If you are going to target sharks a good idea would be to visit this website and request some tags (free) and start tagging your shark catches for research. It is pretty fun to keep track of your catches (length/condition/bait/location) for your own information and it is rewarding when someone catches one of the sharks you have tagged.

You can make a killer shark tooth necklace by going with a Megalodon tooth. Although you wouldn't have caught the shark it makes the task of getting a shark tooth a lot easier. I have bought from this guy with great results.

Like what was said, you can go in any surf shop on the coast and find sharks teeth but they are pricey.

Good luck!

Try using a whole stingray or a half portion of a jack crevalle for bait... that seems to be best for bigger sharks. Make sure to take a kayak, lots of braid, big circle hooks, tail rope, electrical tape, stout cable for a leader, bricks for weight, and a stout rod with a reel that holds ALOT of line. Very few tigers caught on the Texas coast, but there are people who catch them and there have been some caught recently (check out www.extremecoast.com ... most from the surf at Big Shell, and the areas where LandPirate said. Best time is usually around dusk or at night when they will move in closer, but some are caught in the middle of the day. Conditions are really fickle on PINS as well with lots of factors that affect water clarity, tide, bait, and the dreaded weed out.

You will probably want to go after smaller sharks for the first few times. You can use smaller tackle, smaller baits, and get the process down... because if you catch them off the sand... you have to walk them back out to release them, if they don't spool you, cut you off, or break the leader. But its always an adventure and you never know... Hope this helps.

Ok First of all. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE FISHING. DO NOT BE APART OF THIS FORUM. PEOPLE HERE LIKE THE FISHING SPORT. Tell me. Why cant I catch a tiger shark. Especially if it is a catch and release. And if anyone knows anything about any kind of sharks. Sharks shed there teeth like scales. Because they are a kind of scale. Sharks loose teeth everyday and when ever they eat. And if you have a problem with the Asians how bout you do something about it while your there instead of bringing it to the forums.

I am all for catching sharks and releasing them. The problem with trying to get a tooth is that will take time and with a big shark like a tiger shark they don't have much time where they can be out of water. On my last trip out to PINS we caught a 7ft 2in scalloped hammerhead and it died on us after about 2 mins out of water, anyone who sharks fish from the beach knows 2 mins is a good release time. We spent 20 or 30 mins trying to get it revived for the release it finally swam off only to wash up a few hundred yards down the shore. I was really upset but it's part of the game and battle trying to release the fish unharmed.

Go for it bittercreek and good luck. I will let you know shark fishing is a good way to spend a lot of money and pick up a addicting habit. On a side note this thread is a great one; it really shows how people with different beliefs can get their points across without being block-heads and complete a-holes.

Thanks guys!

Just had the wildest bit of serendipity ... was browsing some of the saved programs on the DVR and came across one where a group was tagging tiger sharks off of Hawaii.

It seems - from what I saw on the show - that when you roll a tiger shark over on its back, it goes into a catatonic state. The narrator said that many types of sharks have this reflex (why? I dunno). If you're fishing from a boat, might be worth a try to turn the shark over & see if it works.

Of course, even if it does work, you probably don't wanna stick your hand near it's mouth. If it does work, it seems to give a much better survival rate on C&R.

I seriously doubt you and the other gentleman could accomplish much with calculus or chemistry, what with ignoring the majority of scientists around the planet who present facts that global climate change is a reality. As a sportsman you should let your intelligence influence your statements, not your politics.
