I don't understand why they treat Grapevine that way. A couple of years ago they woudn't let water out when the lake was up 20 feet. Now that it is 10 feet low and we get some rain they let it out.
I realize that they do what they do for a reason, but I just wish they could try to maintain the lake level a little better. Agreed! Any Corps folks out there who can explain?

My wife and I launched last weekend on Lake Ray Hubbard at the ramp on hwy 66. We knew would did not want to go onto the main lake because it was so windy but we wanted to test the new trolling motor and fish finder. New Trolling Motor and Fish FinderThe water level was awful! You could not stray away from the ramp area without getting bogged down in the mud. The water was so low you could not even use the small dock, my wife had to jump in from the boat ramp. I got stuck a couple times trying to come back to pick her up. On the way back in to the boat ramp we made a straight approach in and luckily we were going very slow because we hit a sand/mud bar in about 1' of water and we were quite a ways out from the boat ramp. Are there better lakes in the DFW area for this time of year and low water levels that you like to use? I ran into a similar issue a few weeks ago, trimmed up all the way and still draggin mud.. i WAS lucky enough to be able to use the dock for my wife to board. But this was at least 2-3 weeks ago. The ramp in Bayside Marina is great, but no courtesy dock. level of the lake didnt appear to negatively affect launching from there.. although, you have to run the main lake to get anywhere outside the marina. Not a TON of protection.

I have e-mailed the Corps numerous times and there is no reason they give that makes sense. They claim they let water out based on sales contracts to cities. Doesn't add up. People were using much less water this week with the rain, they doubled output. Last spring ramps and parking lots were underwater and closed in May. They dumped so much that it was 5 feet low in August.

Pretty simple, if its a flood they hold water back so not to OVER flood one area. Drought they let water out when it rains to give every lake down stream a chance at run off.

4.4 inches of Rain in Center Point, TX. A lot more fell in the water shed area's for the Guadalupe, Medina and Colorado River drainages. The Medina river, the Guadalupe at Rebecca Creek and the Colorado at Colorado Bend should benefit a lot from this rain. I'll tell you the status of the Guadalupe river at Center Point in a little while as I have to go to town (Kerrville) and I cross it. I cross some feeder creeks too that have been dry. If they are running again then the river should benefit. just look on here http://waterdata.usgs.gov/tx/nwis/current/?type=flow
FISH ON!! <'///><

I received 4.95 inches between Palestine and Corsicana over the last two days and it's still raining. Most of that water is going into the Trinity or filling stock ponds, but watersheds for several reservoirs are not far away so they should have received similar amounts.

I welcome any rain. I can fish in the rain, I cannot fish in the dirt.

I just got back from the Canyon Lake area, around Startzville, and it rained night before last nearly all night, but only steady light drizzle, and only a couple times it came down a little hard, but it wasn't enough to even get the water to run down the hill around my camper trailer.
It's a good beneficial, long slow amount of moisture that will benefit the vegetation and the aquifer to some small degree, but don't look for much in the way of water into the lakes as most of it went into empty stock tanks, and seeped into the ground.
I was there also, and trapped during the flood of July of 2002, and although I was up on that high hill during that one I remember thinking about building a raft just in case.
Just one more cast!

Your telling me, a friend and I fished Grapevine tuesday morning. We had nothing to fish since the water was 5 ft deep everywhere we went.

Aquilla is less than 1 foot low now. Last week it was 6' low. We have had around 4" of rain, all in the right areas to drain into Aquilla. May have to hit it during the week in the pm. Definitely will hit it next weekend.
