I bought a new trolling motor, it is the Minn Kota 65lb/45" shaft and 24v.

The manual calls for a 60amp breaker off the battery. I have checked All Star Marine, West Marine and Tracker parts and supply at Bass Pro and no one had one in stock.

Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase one locally?

Everyone has told me all they ever use is a 50 amp circuit breaker bang

I have heard people mention a place called Southwest (?), do they have a website and where are they located?

Bob Ridgeway is in the same building as Southwestern Parts. He may have what you need. He is located on Mockingbird Lane in Dallas.

Seriously, if you read the Minn Kota included documentation you will find references to 60 and 50 amp breakers. I installed a 50 on my Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 70 lb thrust (24v) and it works great. Used it under extreme conditions yesterday in the wind. Had NO issue at all.
I'd go with a 50 and save yourself some time and money.

The 60 amp refernce is in the printed booklet but i had a tag on my TM which said to use a 50.

I opened the box and there is a tag that says to use the 60amp circuit breaker.

I finally found the info via good old Google!
For others that may be looking:

Southwestern Parts And Service - Dallas

Southwesterm Parts and Service
605 W. Mockingbird
Dallas, TX 75247
Phone: 214-630-8161 Fax: 214-631-7634

Bob Ridgeway is the man that handles the trolling motors for Southwestern:

Bob Ridgway heads up our electronics repair division with over 30 years experience. He can be reached at 214 630-8161, ext. 230 for all your questions.

Very nice guy! Said he only charges $50 to install the trolling motor but he could not get me in until around the 23rd or 25th of March!

He said all he ever uses is the 50amp circuit breaker!

You can also get one of those $9 circuit breakers that don't have the disconnect, just a rest button. These hook straight up to your battery with the additional bracket (around $3). It makes it extremely easy to hook up the breaker yourself. You can find these at just about any marine store that has parts. I got mine at Plano Marine. Did you already install the TM? Is your old TM 12V or 24V? I would also recommend running #6 wire for the trolling motor.
i just went through all this myself without any difficulty. Getting the two batteries to fit into the compartment was the most difficult issue I ran into.
Let us know how it goes.

I have seen circuit breakers at academy. May want to try there also. I don't know if they have 60 amp or not because I have never really paid much attention to them. Just know that they carry them. (at least the one in Grapevine does)

I emailed Minn Kota this weekend and this is their reply hammer

Quote:
Thank you for your email. The 60amp breaker purchase price is $39.99 plus $9.40 shipping.(this is what we sell them for).A 50 is ok but we recommend 60 for the higher motors.

pas

I have not installed the trolling motor yet smile I bought the 50amp circuit breaker at Tracker Supply at Bass Pro in Garland for around $9.00 and they did not have the 60. It is the small one that just hooks right up at the battery with a reset.

I got the second battery this weekend and it is in and ready to hook up. It is the Maxx-29 from Wal-Mart (Same as the exising battery.) I like the way it held up so I bought the same thing.

I have an exiting 12V trolling motor now. It is an old Force/MotorGuide 12V.

Mr Ridgeway said the wire and plugs on the existing 12V trolling motor should work for the new trolling motor because 12V generally draws more than the 24V.

I have a friend that is going to help me install it but I am waiting for some warm weather cheers He is a very nice guy and does not take to cold weather all that well cool

I also bought (Well my wife bought it actually as a gift with her bonus cheers ) the new Hummingbird 597CI with the new Navionics 2009 Hot Map and I need to install it. My brother in-law is suppose to help me with that on Wednesday. I bought the ball and socket mount and I want to try and install it right near the drivers seat.

My wife and I are excited and want to get them installed so we will be ready to hit the lake and test it all out.

Thanks for all you help!

If you want to help us out I wouldn't say no ROFLOL

you can also just put in an inline fuse, which will save you a bunch of money as well.

Well we installed everything yesterday banana

The Minn Kota 65/45/24V trolling motor installation was fine except the mount holes did not all match the existing motor guide holes. Two matched and we had to plug two and drill two new holes.

The New Hummingbird 597ci is in and working fine also.

Hopefully in a few days the wind will calm down and we can get out and test them both.

Thanks for all the help and comments cool
