We damn sure dont need a slot limit on catfish. So get that out of your head. The bass fishing elitists have ruined their sport, dont ruin ours.

How many Blue Catfish do you harvest per year that are over 15 pounds? These are catfish that you take home and eat.
A. 1-3
B. 4-6
c. 7-9
d. 10-12
e. 13+

I have caught several over 15 lbs and do not keep anything over 10 lbs. I know 4 other anglers that catfish on a regular basis and 3 of them do the same as me. The other will keep any fish he catches of legal limit and he feeds his family on those but not exclusivly of course. His catch rate is probably 1 larger then 15 maybe 10 times a year.

Personally a slot limit would not have any effect on my fishing as I don't keep any of the larger cats anyway.

Your right we do not need a slot but we do need a regulation that says only one fishover 30" inches or so a day and outlaw trot lines and only allow jugline during the day. To dam many people are to lazy to make sure they do not lose their jugs and just cut and leave the trot lines in the water. Sorry if you do it right but I feel trot lining should go. Slot limits have made the Red Fish population and fishing tremendous and on lakes with BAss slots the numbers are tremendous. Slots would not work to encourage larger fish which what many of us want but a limit on how many over a certain size would help by allowing some to reach their potential what ever that may be. Catfishing is becoming more and more popular and with the added pressure on some lakes to ensure the quality of the fishery some stricter regulation will need to be put in place. Trophy catfishing is becoming big business and if the state wants to cash in on the revenue it can generate there will be a need for some type of further regulation. JUst like the State has help build tremendous Bass fisheries the same can be done for some catfish lakes that show the potential of producing good numbers of large cats. I would think that records will begin to fall in the near future on a bunch of our local lakes.

0 cats over 15 pounds leave the big ones more eggs to distribute.

I'm confused. Are you going to use the replies on this thread as part of your research model?
Surely you know that the information gathered on this thread is anecdotal and can't be verified. How could this possibly help your research?
BTW, I've kept only one blue over 15 lbs. this year for what it's worth...

I believe everyone who states zero, none, or only the ones that die are straightforward and telling 100% of the truth. Lots of people are more conservation minded than ever.

I see a problem in your research. Any good researcher knows that they need to eliminate as much error as possible from their study. You, however, set yourself up for failure. You asked a bunch of fisherman to be honest. If that isn't asking for trouble then I don't know what is.

HAHAHAHAHA
