We keep none over 15 lbs. Anything over about 5 or 6 lbs we release. Plenty of small ones for the grease. Hopefully, by releasing the big ones the fishery will only get better for large fish.

There are plenty people that keep them, I see them at the lake all the time. They have just started jug line fishing and have never caught big fish, so they keep them to show them. that is their right, if that is what they want to do, so they hear nothing from me.
As for me, policy on my guide trips...is anyting over 10# goes back in water after photo. Actual way I do not keep them if they do not fit my hand when cleaning, which means under 6# is a box fish.
I hope by returning them, some of those folks that have never caught a big one will catch the one I release, and if not, I will catch him when he is bigger for another photo.
As for crappie, if it were not for commarants, blue and yellow cats, they would probably take over the lake, no way you could catch more crappie than they can produce...they are prolific.

B would be accurate for me this past year.In my opinion, the meat is just as good at 15 as it is at 5. I will not harvest anything over 20 though .

As far as I'm concerned they taste good at any size as long as they are dressed properly. We keep nothing bigger than 10# because I'm afraid at the rate some of the jugliners are taking these big fish out of the lakes, trophy catfishing is going to be something we can only talk about. The thrill of landing a sure enough big one is enough. Put her back and let her fight another day. As catfishermen and women it is our responsibility to ensure a large population of catfish for future generations.

I keep 1 or 2 small cats for a nice meal then let the rest of them go so the next generation will have something to fish for.

ain't this a hoot ... gfish asked a simple question that only required a simple answer & now we have CPR preachers pushing the agenda ... you are pitiful
then again this may be the results gfish was hoping for ... who knows?
ok i know some did answer with a direct answer & if so then i ain't talkin' to you
it ain't anybodys freakin' business what i do with my fish ... kinda curious about ... the whole researce thread could be just a cover ... what's a catfish model any way & what would this info have to do to with makin' one?
regards albertking catfishing is now an industry ... it's best for the industry to eat baby catfish

albertking- Iam gathering information from many different catfish tournaments and doing other research to try and find out at what rate are Blue Catfish reproducing and what is their mortality rate. We are trying to find out if their mortality rate is compensatory or additive. The biggest cause of death for Big Blues are Humans. We are trying to come up with a mortality rate for these Big Blues through different ways of research and try and find any patterns. There is many different concerns out there with fishery managers if they should come up with a slot limit for the Blue Catfish just like they have a slot limit on Bass. I just wanted to post this question to try and find out how many of these big blues are being harvested by asking some of the most experienced fishermen to see what type of answers i can get. I hope people still get on here and answer truthfully b/c the more answers i can get the better. I was just looking for simple answers and not trying to bring up any controversy. Thankyou guys for answering my question!

Don't pay any attention to AlbetKing, he is and always does try to stir the pot. He has web attachments on his signature referring to a religious group, yet he thinks if you post your thoughts, you are posting your agenda, if you do things your way, you are doing it wrong. I am sure if your religion differes from his, you are a sinner, just as he indicates in his posts for fishing. The only one right when he posts is him, so just keep answering questions in any way you feel like answering, you have that right, whether AlbertKing thinks so or not. Do gfish a favor and answer him in your own way.

We need more folks like you who is taking time to try and help the over all well being of blue cats. Please post your results when you get done with your study on the blue cats. Keep up the good work
