I've caught one over 15lbs this year while sandbass fishing and I let him go. The fun was the fight on 6lb tackle. I'm with the majority that 15+ is a release candidate as long as the fish is healthy enough to release. Most of the guides will put in their trip details that fish over 10-15lbs depending on the guide will be released to fight and reproduce.

Well, I stopped keeping the big blues almost two years ago, but my answer will be "1-3" because from time to time I have someone in my boat land a biggun that they want to keep.

Everything over 8 lbs or so goes back on our boat. 1-5 lbers are kept when I need to fill the freezer every so often. I don't think the bigger fish taste much different when cut in small strips and fried but these are your older brood fish with good genetics that I like to see repopulate. To me anyway, I can catch a mess of eaters about anytime so no need to keep the biguns

Over 13. Do you know how many smaller crappie, cats, bass, and other game fish a 50 lb'er will eat in a year? Plus studies show the bigger they are, the less they reproduce. Taste, fillet them smaller and don't have your grease so hot. I caught a 53 lb blue that had a 16 inch crappie in it's stomach. Female and no eggs in the spring.

What month? Blues will spawn later in the Spring, early Summer. May be true about the amount they eat, but let me ask you...what eats more, the 50 lb blue or 25 box fish that are easier to clean? This is an entirely different can of worms but to me there are FAR fewer big cats in the lakes and it takes YEARS to attain that size, so why remove that fish? If you're good enough to target and catch trophy size fish you're good enough to get on a mess of smaller fish. I like to release those bigguns so maybe someone else might have the chance to catch it after it's put on more weight.

0 and uhhhh 0 I think I can count on one hand how many over 15 ive caught in my lifetime! lol Now if the question was reversed and we said how many under 10 do you all keep a year, number would probably be in 50+ range for most of us, and several 100 for alot! It amazes me how many smaller catfish are taken outo of lakes each year, and they just keep on coming back! I love em! You would think that catfish would be wiped out with as many that get kept. Even with the explosion of popularity that this side of fishing has gotten over the last decade and there are still jsut tons and tons of fish!

Never caught one that big, but from what I've always heard, I'd most likely throw it back. Agree with the poster who said there are plenty of smaller ones around here for the taking.

A. 1-3
3 so far this year, and the year is running out, so I'd say 3. I've got six mouths at my house and we'll eat them big ones just like the small ones.
Take a kid fishing!

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
