That summer of ‘76 I was working at Minyards during the day, at Safeway across the street night stocking, and Big Value Supermarket meat counter all at the same time.
I should have 3 wives.

Mutual friend.

The old fashion way, in a bar. She stole my cap that night.

Turned out we had mutual friends.

Started school in kindergarten together. I asked her to be my valentine every year til we moved away in 5th grade.

Fast forward 10 years til we're both in college, I ran into her at one of her soccer games that just happened to be at our school. Started talking after that, dating soon after, married 17 years now with 2 kids. Can honestly say I don't think either of us has ever considered divorce....murder? Maybe...divorce? No

Met my 2nd wife 43 years ago in a hardware store on my Birthday. I was separated from the 1st and had filed for a divorce. She was looking for plumbing parts. I was between Construction Jobs due to wintertime and working there as a salesman. I helped here find what she needed and checked her out. I saw no ring on her finger, so I took her phone number off her check and called her a week later. She would not meet and have a drink with me but would meet for coffee. So we did. Then we date about 6 months. Then she asked me to move in with her. I did and then a year later we were married. Her Mom always said she married me because I knew how to hang drywall. Still is a standing joke,,but could be true. She is the hardest working woman I have ever met. In those years we built 6 house for ourself in Missouri and Texas and developed and built a RV Park sold the park and retired in 2012. Traveled for 5 years and now we are between Texas and Missouri every year. Best thing that ever happened to me.

I was in a rocky marriage when she came to work in the ICU, recruited from Maritime Canada. We didn't particularly like each other at first but once I separated from my ex we went out a few times and things blossomed. After a year in Texas she took a contract in Bangor, Maine and left (her mom was pretty sick and she needed to be within driving distance). It is true that absence makes the heart grow fonder. We kept talking on the phone and she invited me to come up there and work. Flew up at Thanksgiving, walked into the hospital (same one that recently treated me for my heart attack), got a job from the ICU manager. Went home, got my stuff in order, and flew back in mid December. Got married soon after up there. Moved back to Texas in 1998 and made our home out here in the sticks on this white oak ridge.

We've a great relationship as she helps keep me grounded (I've been known to be a reactionary hothead) . And even though I'm quite a bit older with more life experiences, she is extraordinarily wise.

I should have 3 wives.

If they'd been in Utah you probably would.... 😉

At our family reunion. Everybody said it was wrong, but that just made me want her more.

I was supposed to hook up with her cousin for a booty call, but she showed up instead, a true love story

Is she one of those people that just seem to always have good luck or was she just fortunate that one time?

Ok. I was hitting on this girl hard for a date. After a month or so, she knocked on the door of my apartment. Opened the door and thought, YES- it worked. NOT! She said, come with me and led me to another apartment. Knocked on the door and introduced me me to my wife of 36 years. Love happens…

Keep looking forward. That’s why windshields are larger than rear view mirrors.
