Aircraft have backup systems for backup systems. These multi-trillion pound, floating, powered barges should have some backup systems, some fail safes to mitigate losses of power and control. Root cause will be good to know. We will see how transparent the NTSB and related departments will be. If the captain could steer "into" the bridge supports, why didn't he steer away from the supports and float under the bridge?

Classless moron.

I seriously doubt they recover any, tidal currents would drag them out, sea critters etc.

they have called off the search.

Apparently the current was around 9 knots and that powered the ship into the bridge stanchions.

. They will float up later, maybe in April/May. Had a girl from my high school jump from the bay bridge in winter and she finally surfaced in early May if my memory is correct.

He never misses an oppurtunity to tell a lie. I'm more surprised that he didn't say he was on the bridge when it collapsed.

like the report from earlier stated... it happened at the perfect time with full moon, strongest current... if it was truly planned out in advance... and someone was capable of shutting the ships power off and backup... it happened at the perfect time and place to get the end results.

My guess is the port will be open in 6 months.
The bridge will take two years to sort out the DEI spoils, two years to fight off environmental and other interest group lawsuits, 5 years to build excluding union strife. So 9 years.

this bridge is a big nothing burger in the east coast traffic patterns. if they wanted to do some real damage, hit the GW, Verrazano narrows, holland tunnel, 3 or 4 bridges around d.c.

then you would have a major problem.

Biden said the government is funding the rebuild. I hope he is planning to seek reimbursement from the shipping company.

HA! Since when has this joker funded any of his spending projects? It will just go on the big credit card.

If the Feds pay to fix it. There will be no insurance investigation.

We'll never know the cause.
