Busted sewer pipe? It's not pressurized though.

I don’t think he knew he was going to have to back up all his bold claims. Good for you Brent S!! thumb

I highly doubt there is a code issue. See way too many plumbers taking advantage of people these days and I mean it’s insane!! I’ve yet to have anyone claim plumbing code on supply lines to house in 13+ years as insurance adjuster. Tropically plumbing code issues are water heater related with pans, proper venting if gas and such. However typical insurance policy has no coverage for issue in the yard unless there is a service line endorsement.

Interesting it’s 12”, it’s 24” just north of the red river, but I’ve seen plenty installed shallower never freeze. Really anything a foot deep is pretty safe even up here.

I paid $750 each to have this done on 3 new specs I am currently building. This was last year and the runs were close to a 100’ each. This bid is way too high, she needs to find a new construction plumber that has the equipment to trench a new line in. The water lines are a black poly type material and are usually 3/4” thick.

I know she won’t get this kind of price but $2-3k should be extremely doable.

Let me know if she can’t find anyone and I’ll see if I can get anyone down there to help. Highly unlikely since they are coming out of Sherman area but I don’t mind asking for you.

Back when I plumbed with my FIL, granted it’s been years the city used cast iron to meET code and the country we used PVC‼️ I’m sure that’s changed because that was over 30 years ago.

Yea, why are you replacing the entire line?

They are saying the main line is not up to code. I'm not sure if this is correct, but I was told the plumber may have said it has to be replaced with PEX to meet code. Doesn't make sense to me. Why would PVC not be code on a main water line?

Have her call the city and confirm it doesn't meet code, this doesn't sound right

Now of days you can pipe burst the existing water line and only have to dig a pit at the street and the house shut off and pull a new line in and go under a driveway.

I would look into just making a spot repair.

750 each is slave wages. Say they use the black poly pipe- which may or may not meet code- not sure down there, they had 150 buck in materials per house, excavator 150 minimum per house, they laid pipe and backfilled for 450 bucks a house? Maybe an irrigation contractor with illegals would work for that price.

When I was living in the city of Allen, my main water line burst. It was maybe 75 feet from the street to the house. The city required I use a licensed plumber. They also came out and "inspected" the repair. It cost just under $6/K. but that was 12 years ago.

Regarding this exact topic back in 2010 the City of Lewisville sent homeowners notices that they would no longer cover (I guess they did prior?) the water line or sewer line that was on your property. If it backed up, leaked, burst etc it was on you. They cover it to the street and no farther.

They said they had arranged a deal for insurance on said items for City residents with www.slwofa.com The more people who signed up from the town the lower price could be.

I just checked and I pay $94 a year for both water line and sewer. The water line is covered for up to 12k in repair costs and the sewage is 8500k. Makes me think those might be the high end of repairs on such items.

Had three neighbors on my street have issues with the water line in the last several years. I just saw one this morning, good old Ray, I asked old Ray what that had actually cost him and he said "Oh near seventy five hundred and some change..." and he wished he had "Gotten that dawg danged in-surr-ance that the City offered". He is like from where hop lives... kind of looks like him too.

Hope that helps.

If the house was built around the mid 80's it could be quest pipe which has been outlawed nor would I make a repair on it. Sharkbite does make a coupling for it but again I would replace the line if the finances allowed. Our price up to 50' is $3,879 and the driveway would probably add another $1,500 or so to the total.

Licenses and Permits are not required when you use Juan and Poncho's Plumbing service. All work is done after 5:00 (when the city inspectors are home) and they do it fast so they don't get caught. They usually want cash but would be a lot cheaper. Has she thought of going this route?
