My sister-in-law in Grapevine had a pipe burst in their front yard - the main water line. It's an average size city front yard. They are quoting $10,000 to run a new line from the meter to the house. That seems insane to me. My buddy just did a new main line from the meter to a new construction lake house 3-4 times further from the street for less than $1200.

I haven't been around city codes and city plumbing for a while. Does that quote sound crazy?

if it's a normal type setback (75' or so from curb) that is way to friggin high.

is it the city quoting or a plumber co.?

Yeah, $10K...I woukd be getting a LOT more bids. Not knowing how far the run is, I would tell never pay that.

Plumbing company is quoting. They do have to go under a one-car wide driveway. Only one plumber out of 10 she called showed. I would think that should only add $1200-$1500 to get under the driveway.

Not sure if that is high or not. However I live in similar type home not far from Grapevine and my insurance for such an event covers up to 12K.

I got the insurance as several homes on my street had issues and they expressed to me it cost them near 10K. The insurance is $64 a year so I go in for it.

It would not shock me. They may be quoting to go under the house also? If it is cast iron they may be quoting total replacement.

Man, Wish I could get that. Is it separate from your regular insurance?

Get multiple quotes. Try Levy & Son, I been using them lately for plumbing, they have provided great service, they always send out good smart guys.

They were told the entire line had to be replaced to bring it up to code. I don't have all the specifics. Getting second-hand info right now.

The water line won't be cast iron; the sewer line might be. The water line will be PVC, PEX, maybe copper or steel.
