Red Wings.
Probably won't be under $150 though. But I've reached the age where comfort is worth a few extra sheckles.
Also I'd recommend composite toes rather than steel toes. Slightly more flexible and forgiving. not all shops allow those. ours doesn't and we also require metatarsal protection. they look like Frankenstein boots. Those metatarsal boots are double sucky.

Ariat > Wolverine > Redwing
I've worn all three and they any of those will do the job but I prefer Ariat.

My last pair was Double H and I was pretty satisfied. I like that they make styles that have soles that look like traditional cowboy boots, ie has a heel. I also like my Ariats.
These days I care mostly about comfort. If they don't feel great off the bat they go back on the shelf. No more of the break-in nonsense for me. That goes for boots, shoes and flipping flips.

Red Wings are best when it comes to really working in them. For just going to see customers a composite toe western style will be fine. I can tell you from experience that Ariat an Twisted X will not make it 90 days on a drilling rig, a good pair of Red Wings will go just over a year. We have a company come to each of our locations with a trailer full of boots once per year, and they have learned over the years what our guys will pick out. They bring very few Ariats and Twisted X these days, only the salesman and managers usually pick those out.

I have oilfield refinery and some other customers I have to suit up for. 95% of the time they ride around in their tote. I went cheap and bought a reel with the surplus.

I have had a pair of Redwings for about 6 years now. I walk commercial construction sites probably 4/5 times a week in them. Some weeks they get more wear than others. They are comfortable, water resistant and durable.
Don't get steel toe or safety toe unless you absolutely must. They are significantly less comfortable.

Another vote for RedWings. One of the few boot mfr's that will re-sole your boots if the uppers are still intact.

...skuff em up. You don't want to look like a noob. This^^ is how to be helpful!! Not “this brand” or “that brand”…but some advice (or “advise”, as some of you like to post) that will apply no matter what you get.
