Just purchased new to me boat and upgrading electronics. Going to either a Helix 10 or 12 at the console with side and downscan, but curious as to how many of you actually use sidescan up front at the bow? Downscan is a must there...what say ye?

I don't have it up there, but often wish I did. When fishing new ares, how could you not want to know that there's some structure to the left of you? my vote, get it!

Side scan doesn't work well when you are not moving at least a couple mph. You are typically doing that when you have the big motor running. Hence the importance of side scan at the console. Personally I think it's completely unnecessary up front, but far be it from me to tell another man how to waste his money.

I will always have it though, just because I like it. All graphs are pre-programmed for it now, so its not like youd be spending anymore than normal. Moving at 0.2mph because of a slight breeze.

I like seeing the side scan at the bow, but with that being said I didn't want one installed at the bow. I can get a little crazy on the TM. Figured I'd get some really goofy results. So I leave the console running side scan and wireless connect to a tablet up front. Then just run map or 2d on the bow.

several years ago was flipping/pitching a row of boat docks....got couple loops in my line so I pitched the jig out other side of boat away from the docks while I pulled line off my reel to get loops/tangles out....when I picked up on my jig,I realized it was in a brushpile so I jigged it up and down a couple times and caught a 6lb fish... I'm sure there were many more brushpiles out in front of docks that I never knew was there.....what would be best thing to get so you could spot brushpiles, stumps etc while you were fishing down a bank? would it be a 360 scan unit?....panoptic?...or just side scan?

I have panoptix but I don't see many brush piles. I do use it because I can see fish in front of me instaed of under me.

No doubt 360. That is exactly what 360 was made for

In my opinion, Lowrance SideScan at the bow isn't great but it is nice to have if you're fishing deep structure. I had hummbinbird SideScan on the bow of my old boat and it was awesome for fishing deep structure. Basically eliminated the need for tossing buoys out. Neither will show a real crisp sharp image while sitting still but it will show you where stuff structure/cover is.

For me, SI isnt as important to have at the transducer at the bow. I dont mind sharing the back transducer with the bow unit for the SI image. Now I also have a 360. Thats the nice thing about the helixes now. You only need to buy one SI unit and they will display all the other stuff as long as you have one unit capable of SI somewhere.

I have not used the 360, but Id have to guess that it would be the best for that.

I have SI on the bow. I cant seem to get it set right to see anything with TM going, soon as i let off it clears up. I think it would be more useful if I could get it clearer.

Easier said than done, there are tons of people with rf interference, most of them with ultrex and helix... mines only on side scan now, Ive spent tons of time trying all the fixes to no avail. it will be clear on 10 power for the ultrex but not 9.. it clearly has something to do with the pulsing of power the ultrex uses.
