I fished with a guide that had a HB unit with the 3 preset buttons and really liked the way they worked.

Helix has the preset buttons. The helix are a little more user friendly but no touchscreen and can't customize near as much as the solix. Solix will share maps and heading sensor without having to share the GPS info. You can create your own views with the solix whereas the helix what comes with the unit is what you get. You can adjust the pane size with multiple view screen withbthe hlix but not with the solix. The solix will have a larger amp draw also. Solix will also let you scroll back sonar/di/si history.

Hi Guys,

A couple of questions please..

1. If I put a Helix 7 DI G2N on the trolling motor which is the transducer to swap out with HB for the best DI performance.

2. Additionally if I put I HELIX 10 MEGA SI G2N and network it to the 7, what, if any, views would the 7 be able to see from the 10?

Thanks in Advance !

You didn't post the entire model names:
Helix 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2N
Helix 10 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G2N

Those will cross-share all sonar functions, GPS data, but not mapping or heading sensor separate from GPS.

The MEGA SI units have a dedicated Down Imaging crystal in the transducer so there is no need to share the DI from the Helix 7.

The proper DI transducer for trolling motor attachment is a PUCK style. Those have extra internal shielding that the transom transducer does not have.
DI would not be any better or worse using one.
The XTM 9 DI 25 T uses the same frequencies for 2D sonar as the transom transducer:
200/455 kHz with spec coverage of 28/16 degrees.
The XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T uses the 2D frequencies of 83/200 kHz with spec coverage of
60/20 degrees.
Choose the coverage you want.

Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3,
Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

I dont think so. I believe I only have the single transducer at the back of the boat. Will double check. Had everything installed when I bought the boat a few years ago and dont remember any discussin about any cable, but like I said...pretty new to this.

the connector that screws into the transducer port on the back of the unit, if it has 2 wires coming out of the plug then you have a y cable if only one wire coming out then no y cable

I dont see anything that looks like the Y cables I see online. There are 3 cables coming out of the back of the Onix unit. There is a box that looks like a hub as well. Trying to upload a pic to see if it will help.

Any suggestions appreciated.

That's your Ethernet switch. Make sure sonar pinging is not turned off, usually a box will show up if pinging is turned off though. Then you may have to try the factory defaults unless you know someone who has an onix transducer you can hook to the unit to test first.

What is wrong with the transducer that comes with a helix 7 mega DI gn2 on the bottom of the ultrex with a transducer shield?
Sorry if this has been asked before.
I have the helix 9 mega SI gn2 at the console and a helix 7 mega DI g2n on the trolling motor, ultrex I pilot link, and all networked.
Thanks

There is not a Helix 7 mega. But the transducer that comes with Helix 7 di g2n does not have the extra shielding that the one for the trolling does to protect or reduce the possibility of having RFI

Thank you for the help. The only thing else I found was in the network settings under depth 1 it shows the 2D transducer (lost) even though in the network info screen it shows to be connected. If that sparks any other thoughts, please send them my way. Otherwise I will give hummingbird/Johnson a call to see if they have any suggestions and then try the reset.

Thanks again.

So is the difference purely the size of the cone?

I got my Helix 7 Chirp DI G2 today and have to decide which of the two ducers you listed I want to swap HB for.

I own a HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2 unit. I hope that this is a simple question. The unit has 1 SD card slot, not two. I bought the standard LakeMaster chip. It says that the slot can also be used to to "save screenshots, sonar recordings and waypoints or to update your units software" quote from the Helix 7 website.

How does this work? Do you upload the info from the LakeMaster chip and then put in a blank SD chip to do the recordings? Do the waypoints etc. get saved onto the Lakemaster chip? I can definately see a benefit in the Helix 9 and above units with two slots.

Just install the lakemaster card into the unit. The lake master card is for maps only. Nothing is saved to the card. Use a blank SD card for updates and screen captures. For updates you need to register your unit at Humminbird.com. once registered you open your account and follow the instructions to download update to the SD card. Then insert card into the unit for update.

The maps are not loaded to the unit's memory, they are read directly from the map card. If you remove the map card, your maps will disappear.

Waypoints are written directly to the unit's memory in the Waypoint Library. The only way to get them on any memory card is to purposely Export them.

Is there some kind of chart or something that I can look up release dates on Humminbird models? There are so many different Helix 9s as an example, I was wonder when each of them actually hit the market. Specifically I'm look for when this product came to market: HELIX 9 SI GPS 409950-1.

I find the following Helix 9 units on the Humminbird web site:
HELIX 9 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G2N | HELIX 9 Series | 410090-1 at $1299.99
HELIX 9 CHIRP MEGA DI GPS G2N | HELIX 9 Series | 410500-1 at $999.99
HELIX 9 SI GPS | HELIX 9 Series | 409950-1 at $999.99
HELIX 9 SI GPS KVD | HELIX 9 Series | 409950-1KVD at $999.99
HELIX 9 CHIRP DI GPS G2N | HELIX 9 Series | 410080-1 at $899.99
HELIX 9 CHIRP GPS G2N | HELIX 9 Series | 410070-1 at $799.99
HELIX 9 DI GPS | HELIX 9 Series | 409930-1 at $799.99
HELIX 9 SONAR GPS | HELIX 9 Series | 409920-1 at $699.99

I know the Mega is the newest but noticed that the HELIX 9 SI GPS 409950-1 doesn't say G2 or G2N. Looking at saving a couple of bucks over the Mega while still getting the 800 Khz HD transducer options (when you buy the optional transducer), 9" screen with TWO SD card slots, some preset buttons and something that will connect with an I-pilot later.

Just a thought since I haven't opened my Helix 7 Si G2 yet.

Anyone know of any links to compare Humminbird units side by side? I wish that I could pull up two or three different units and see what the differences are between the units without flipping back and forth and making notes.

Thanks for all of the help in advance.
