Hey Wayne and Diesel, I currently have a Helix 10 DI (first generation) and I am thinking of adding an SI unit with SI transducer. Can I buy and install a 7 SI and link them and, thus be able to display SI on my DI unit?

Yes, if the H7 is a G2N. The first generation and G2 models are not linkable.

You will have to not use CHIRP since a first generation unit will not display CHIRP.

Hey Wayne and Diesel, I have just purchased a used 2014 Legend 191. It currently has a lowrance at the console, but I am going to get an Ultrex in the near future. I had an 898 on the boat I just sold. A couple of questions: 1) do all the "birds" link up to the Ultrex or just the higher end ones? 2) difference between the Helix 9 and 10? Looks like they are the same size as far as the actual unit. Out of curiosity, why do they not fill up the entire face (with a small margin all the way around) rather than having such large margins? I would like to get the best unit I can for close to $1000. Thanks for your help. This entire post is very educational. Thank you!

Any unit that is Ethernet capable will network with the ultrex with I pilot link. Any 9,10,12 helix Or solix/onix. The older numbered core units will also such as the xx9 but the core units that end with xx8 did not get the latest link updates. The smallest screen that is Ethernet capable would be the helix 7 g2n(any 7 g2n model).

The difference between the Helix 9 and 10 would be the 1" screen size and screen resolution. They are the same physical size.

Looking for some input guys. I have several questions. Any input is much appreciated! I am getting close to ordering a new boat. Im thinking about getting it without a trolling motor or any graphs. I can rig everything myself. The end result I want is an ultrex with the link on it. I want a helix 9 or 10 at the console and a helix 7 on the bow. Here are my questions.
1. Is the side image worth the extra money? I mainly fish for stripers, hybrids, and sand bass. I occasionally fish for crappie and catfish. Never really bass fish.
2. I will get the helix 7 as a g2n. Can I hook both fish finders and the trolling motor together without needing a hub?
3. I may start with the helix 7 at the console and move it up front when I buy a bigger helix. Will the DI transducer work with a SI unit? Id install the SI transducer on the transom as well. Thinking about leaving the DI transducer back there as a spare.
4. Is the built in transducer on an Ultrex ok with a helix 7? I get that it will function. Asking more if Id be better off but an external transducer to mount the on the trolling motor. This would be a DI unit, not SI.

1. I mainly fish for stripers as well. I do like having side imaging and it does come in handy when chasing schools of stripers/hybrids/sand bass on flats in the open water, but for me good maps are the most important.

2.You will need the Ethernet switch in order for both units to network with I pilot link. When connecting 2 or more Ethernet accessories or units you will need the Ethernet switch. You will really like the I pilot link. I use the link capabilities constantly

3. The di transducer will work on the si unit but not really recommended. The unit will be trying to process the empty si circuit and may cause damage to the si circuit. Humminbird has FAQ that shows how to set it up but I think long term use would damage the unit. I have all my transducers mounted on the transom and everything works fine.

4. The us2 transducer is just fine if you only want 2d for the helix 7. If you go with the di unit you will want the trolling motor puck.

That unit does not have Down Imaging. It has simulated (composite) Down Imaging views created by blending the two SI pulses.

You have two choices for a trolling motor application:

XTM 9 SI 180 T is the trolling motor puck version of the included transom Compact SI transducer---has extra internal shielding. No mount needed, comes with stainless steel hose clamps.

If you want sharper images than what the Compact SI transducer can produce, you can use the XTM 9 HDSI 180 T that is 2" longer, has longer SI crystals that produce a thinner Imaging pulse. Both the transom and trolling motor version of the HDSI transducers have the extra internal shielding.

Oh boy!...I knew from reading on here that it converted the Si in to Di....but I thought I could buy a Di ducer and then have Tru Di....so you are saying I can't?

You can but it might be risky. I wouldn't suggest it with a unit out of warranty. 2d reading may also be weaker. I killed a 998 several years ago by not turning off sonar while I did not have a transducer connected to the unit. It was trying to process the empty circuits and killed the si/di. It would still network with another unit but when I plugged a transducer into it it would only produce 2d. The si/di was dead. I think long term use of a di transducer plugged into a si unit may do the same. The link below describes how to do it so if something happens you could always use this in your defense banana

Looking for a little help.

I was on the lake the other day and all was well until my main graph at the console lost depth and contour readings on sonar, DI, and SI. I checked the transducer while on the lake and it looked fine. The temp and speed settings were working fine. Front graph was working fine, but it was using the transducer in the TM.

Once off the lake, I did a bit of research, checked cables, connections, batteries, and settings that I thought might have been accidentally changed. Everything looks fine. I have been hesitant to pull the cord on a factory reset, but perhaps that is what I need to do.(I don't want to lose all the good work Slade did on my settings...I do have a copy of what he did, but you know how the reboot restore thing goes sometimes).

Any suggestions on other things I can check? How likely is it the transducer went bad? Any help appreciated.

My setup is: 899CI HD on the bow, ONIX 8CI SI on the console, Ulterra gen 1 TM with iPilot link.

I'm a bit new to all this and this is my first post...so if I'm in the wrong place, just tell me where to go. :-)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is the onix using a Y cable to separate the 2d and si transducer?

....I am looking at buying my first HB unit ....
Solix or Helix ?
what are the differences ?
I fished with a guide that had a HB unit with the 3 preset buttons and really liked the way they worked.
