The Gibson's stores were great stores for fishing/hunting. However the premier sporting goods store in Longview & the surrounding area was Tony's H&T. Best place to purchase a Browning shotgun. His inventory was very very deep in fishing supplies.

We used to frequent the Gibson's in Weatherford when I was young. I still remember walking up and down the aisle looking at the fishing stuff and then looking at the guns. This was back in the late 70's. I was born in 73

I worked at an OTASCO ( Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company) when I was in High School in Borger, Tx
I bought 3 rifles , all Remington, 700 , 788 and 550-1.

Total investment under $200. I still have all three.
The store sold Brownings , and they were still made in Belgium at that time. If I could go back and talk to my 18 year old self, I would tell him to buy every one he could and leave NIB.

Yep Gibson's, Whites, Western Auto. The gibsons now have nothing to do with what used to be the old gibsons, Kerrville is certainly no discount store but they do have everything you cant find anywhere else. Need Burger Chef back too. White's in Odessa back in the 60s was great. It was 2 story. All of downtown Odessa was cool back then.

I've still got a pack of sewing needles around here somewhere with a Gibsons price tag on it.

Remember Woolworth's?

But what I miss more than anything was how it wasn't great big chains that everybody went to. You had the stores that catered to there.

That 7.50 would be $34 in todays money (3.5% inflation for 44 years) and that will be buy 50 rounds magtech cowboy loads at Academy.... THESE are the good ol' days!

No one asked your opinion. I am the author of the most recent lame posts.

What about S&H Green Stamps? Bought my first tent and camping supplies with green stamps my grandparents collected.
