Sure appears that way, but I've never ran into Lane on the water.. Chris once and Chuck maybe a time or two.. If I see a Big Crappie Boat I try to stay away because I know those Boys are making a living fishing..
I've got plenty of fishing spots marked that I catch fish on...

You guys are funny. I go to the trouble to paint my marker buoys black so that potlickers don't see them and when the potlickers drive their boat past me I change from vertical jigging to casting so they think I'm bass fishing. When they are done driving by, I'm jigging again. All I want is that when I go fishing on Saturday and Sunday for my spots to have fish on them. It sucks when people see your spots, fish them when you aren't there (during the week because you actually work for a living) and then when you go fishing, all your stuff has no fish on it because they have all been pulled off. I even put a tarp over the water in my slip because I can't tell you how many times I've walked up and seen people I don't know pulling fish off my pile at my slip. I'm pretty sure those are my fish! I guess I'm just a terrible person for thinking that way. But hey, I just want to catch a bunch of fish like the rest of us!

ok lets see ......hmmmmm ....where to start here ....
1 ...yawl play nice
2 ...I think the not so nice guys are ahead by a nose
(or some other body part)
3 ...refer to rule 1 hammer
this crappie fish thing sure seems to get personal and possessive at times , I was just out yesterday getting a smack down from some kinda summer thunderstorm , I did in fact fish some timber not far from where I saw 2 folks ketchin crappie 2 years ago , I suppose I am a potlicker for doing it to some degree , but I am still having issues deciding to what degree .....
I have been previously labeled as a 4th degree potlicker ,but at this point I may have reached the ever coveted black belt degree of potlicking .....
by the way ...anyone know where a really good bites is ?
best pm me .... I don't think there is another degree for me to attain on the potlicking scale rolfmao
and KABOOM slinger

This has got to be the funniest thread!

How many of you fishermen started out asking questions and fishing spots you saw someone fish at? I know for sure everyone starts out a "POTLICKER" regardless of what you might think.

The term potlicker is disparaging and negative remark. It could even be taken as racist if you're not careful. I wouldn't call anyone a potlicker even if they come close to me while fishing as you never know the story of the other guy. He maybe new and needs to be educated on courtesy.

Bottom line is I am always courteous to other "fishermen". Give advice and feel good about it. Don't dwell on the past and live for the future. Teach.

This is EXACTLY why I don't shoot docks. I respect the dock owner's privacy and you never know when you'll run across a dock owner who owns the water below the dock. There is something terribly wrong with private docks sitting over public water but this isn't the thread for that.

Based on the above logic I can say with absolute certainty that Chuck Rollins taught me how to potlick docks on Cedar Creek last year. So Lane may want to check with him on Potlicking 101. BTW Chuck, you are by far the best guide I've been out with and if I ever need to recommend a good fishing trip for someone I know and like yours is the first name to come up.

I'm not firing shots at Okie and Matt. Don't start saying that because I don't want people to start getting their feelings hurt and then I have to hear about it. I'm talking about the guys who sit in spots just to watch us go by, they see us mark our spots, then pull right up beside us. That gets old in a hurry.

PNSP, dock shooting is not potlicking. For starters, it's rare on Cedar Creek to actually see people fishing off their docks. If they are fishing off their docks, we stay away. Secondly, if people put brush under their dock, we don't want to fish it anyways. Too many hangups for an already frustrating art of catching fish.

Lane, That was a joke. I knew you were not referring to them at all because yall are good friends. It was really truly just a joke. I apologize if it was taken otherwise.

Why I ever opened my big mouth again is beyond me. hammer

I'll shut up now on this thread. Carry on.

my intention was not to get folks upset at each other here
again refer to rule 1 ....
was just trying to decide what exactly the definition was on a derogatory term used frequently here on the forum ....
we all "potlick" at some point no matter what the true definition is in my opinion
and taking it to terribly serious takes the fun right out of it ....
so nevermind the definition ....
just try to remember we all have the same agenda
"ketchn" ...
cuz just fishin gets boring right quick bang
this thread was NOT directed at any individual or individuals

No harm at all Bobby, you know I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. That includes your feelings too, Big Purple smile

I do see your point PNSP, I just respectfully disagree with your logic. Not a problem though, you and I will just have to fish brush piles together. To be quite frank, if I have any choice at all in the matter, I don't want to shoot docks with customers unless they specifically request to do so, which is rare.

I think that this thread may have turned into a chance for us to vent our problems (myself included) with boaters who didn't show the kind of respect we were looking for while on the water. With that being said, if we respect other people and treat them as we would want to be treated, things should all work out pretty well for the most part. I believe there will still be confrontation on the water, as it is a very emotional sport, but I feel like most of the people who are actually reading/responding to this thread are not the ones who are doing the potlicking.

Leave it to Ketchen to stir the "pot" so to speak. Interesting thread, My opinion is pretty simple. Be respectful. I've been on the water and have watched boats sitting on every bp I had put in the lake. At the same time. I personally think it's kind of cool. I'm sure Mr. Spears down at Navarro Mills knows what I mean. You probably could count on one hand the number of people who has improved a lake equal to Mr. Spears. I would be curious to hear his opinion.

Well I just realized this am that my lovely little wife is a BACKSEAT POTLICKER!!! rolfmao hammer rolfmao
When I told her so, I had to explain the whole debate, er, discussion.
She told me to go out today and find some fish! In the same breath, she said "Don't stay all day and hurt yourself, but she didn't want to waste her precious time on the water searching, she wanted to be catching!!!!"
Wednesday is her day with our youngest grandson, so I normally do my searching, alone fishing on those days. Now I have "Marching Orders" clap
