Explain the purpose of SCALING bait ! All predatory fish do this right ? Why do you ? Thats good bait just nock off the scales. .

I scale to release more scent. I also make tiny cuts after I scale for the same reason.

I scale to release more scent. I also make tiny cuts after I scale for the same reason. x10. Scale'm. for the the scent to ease out. Keeps the Scales off the ; Point of the Hook. Real Catfisherman were teaching us long ago. Commen sense. Scale the Perch. If using for Cut-Bat. Trot-Line. Just knock a couple Scales off. Behind the Doresal . Where you need to run that hook thru. Just different ways. To bait your hook. Depending on how your fishing.

My grandad used to bait his trotline with waterdogs when he could catch them. Man, those are some ugly critters. I think he was probably catching more channels than blues.

I get it!
Scale it therefore removing natural scent by removing the slime
Then score it to increase the depletion rate of remaining juices/scent
Now soak it for 3 hrs on a hole you caught fish on 3 yrs ago . . . . . . .
Gotcha!
I hook plenty of perch and shad,a scale on the point of a 8/0 hook ??
LOL! pick it of if your lucky enough to spear one of those tiny scales
Carp scales do get snagged,simply pull them off if you hooking "angle" didnt miss them

People do things different than everybody else sometimes. It's called free will. There is no proof that one way is better than the other way. It's usually a force of habit or even superstition depending on what you were taught and what has worked for you in the past. There is no right or wrong way. Put bait on a hook however you want and you will catch fish if they are biting. Thanks for you opinion CB, I'm sure that way has worked for you or you wouldn't still do it that way.
