Expect 3ft waves. I'd launch at Highport first and head north to fish TI and the north side of preston point. If you don't catch anything saddle up and launch at Grandpappy's and try the little mineral arm. It will still be rough and you will not be able to leave the little mineral arm of the lake. If you want to try for LMB and SMB hands down I'd launch at Eisenhower and fish the cliffs and damn. Those cliffs will be the most protected areas.

I fish Texoma with a 16ft boat myself mostly around Eisenhower, but its a bay boat with a sealed inner hull and has cockpit bilge pump on float switch plus a bilge pump in the hull and the front 2/3 is filled with foam. You couldn't sink it on purpose if you tried. I've run that thing 30mph in 3ft swells on the main span, but it did tear up my equipment and probably would have destroyed the lower unit. IMO most of the aluminum boats aren't built to handle a good swamping.

When the wind is right and the waves are pounding the beach near our corps frontage place on Preston point you would think your at the coast. The roar can be heard through the trees and 100 yards up the hill.

I've got an 18 foot jon and if its more than 15 mph I'm staying home or staying in the no wake zone.

You can play the stay in the protected areas all you want but if you have motor trouble the wind will push you into the nasty stuff fast.

No one knows your boat, or your boating skills better than you do.

If you are asking the question, you already know the answer and should not let anyone change your mind.

My grandfather used to say to me that "there are old fisherman and bold fisherman, but there are very few old, bold fisherman.

The fish will be there another day..... clean the boat, re-tie your lines, put in some new spark plugs and fish another day.

Just one guy's opinion - be safe out there!

1-2' chop on the roughest of days. I work offshore so i see rough weather pretty frequently and i can tell you that although it gets VERY choppy on Texoma, the waves are never more than about 2' on the roughest days, but the chop will pound you to death! I wouldn't go out on a rough day in anything smaller than 20'

This. Was out there 3 times the past two weeks and have used only about 3, maybe 4 gallons of gas. Launch out of highport and fish along the islands. heck even next to the barrier bouys to the right as you are heading out of highport.

Look for the birds working but my favorite thing to do is get out there 30 mins before sunrise and throw chug bugs and pencil poppers. Easy to get a limit around just the south island, throwing near cover. Caught plenty throwing around the stumps.

Good luck! I was out there two weeks ago in 17mph winds (18ft aluminum bass boat) Just make sure your bilge pump works, you have a back up and a STRONG trolling motor thumb

That sounds like a plan! Thanks. I guess I will bring my passport just in case the motor fails and I end up in Okalahoma.

I am having a hard time following mudshark's post. His signature line ergo the Mudshark seems to be a puppet speaking these word. That are taking on a life of their own Mudshark, meaning.

Are you asking what my screen name means? That is a fair question. If I am missing something let me know.

The OP was just a question about how bad do you think the lake will be Friday with the forecasted winds, I don't go to Texoma very often at all.

I have a place on texoma in Cambridge shores. It's the cove just south of high port. I own a 16 and a half glass bass boat. If you watch the weather real close and pay attention while your fishing and use the islands to your advantage I think you'll be fine. Heading west to 377 wouldn't be a bad idea at all either. I've caught a lot of fish that way when everybody else was near the damn. Go fish and see what happens I bet you'll have a good time regardless. The birds are your friend this time of year!

I am rigged up and ready to roll! Full tank of gas, rods are rigged with a combination of swim baits, slabs, and rigs for fresh shad. I am hoping to catch shad close to the marina around high point. I might even catch some shad tomorrow to drift for cats just in case. What am I missing?

1' -2' chop on the roughest of days? Obviously you haven't rounded Preston point heading west when there is a 20-30 mph SW breeze. I have and couldn't see over the next wave ahead of me. At least six foot rollers and I know it gets worse than that. The lake is not open ocean... the river / cliffs act as a funnel.

And I know who "Jeff" is.

Sorry man. Theres no way, and yes i have. I work on supply boats in the gulf of mexico and knowing the height of the seas is part of my job. I've seen it pretty bad on texoma but there aint never any 6' rollers. Like i said it gets Extremely choppy and i wouldn't doubt there are occasionally 3' waves but i highly, highly doubt it ever gets waves bigger than that. Not trying to be rude, just stating my educated opinion.

Now Those are 6' rollers

We have two lakehomes on Texoma on the main span (sunset). I've seen a wave wall built for the ocean snap like a twig on more than one occasion. I've knocked bulkheads loose on a boat built and designed in Miami for 6ft seas at 60+mph (28 Apache). I've seen a 24ft cabin boat get pushed completely out of water....... we had to turn it around to pull it out. Even the coast guard will tell you it gets to 3-4ft officially.....and for someone who doesn't have the technical experience to accurately measure a wave they will easily appear to be 6ft.

So now the only question is..........who wants to hold the measuring tape. I'll drive. Not it! rolfmao
