I know this is a stupid question and I think I now the answer but I already took Friday off to go fish and I really want to go. This Friday is supposed to have wind up to 15 MPH. How bad will Texoma be? I have a 16.5 foot aluminum bass boat. It is not the greatest in white caps.

I am planning on launching at either Grandpappy, Little Mineral or Highport. The hope is to chase striper early and then seek a large blue cat.

How rough will it be?

I am gonna make it simple for your go put in at the 377 bridge you have protection from a strong wind South and a North wind is knocked down some as well and just look for birds chasing stripers and fish for cats in the same areas.

I think if you can put in at 377 and be out there early and stay in areas where you are protected from the wind you should be ok . Since the wind will be out of the south the south shoreline will be pretty good for you. But I wouldn't go north with that strong of a wind. Texoma is like an ocean when the wind gets above 20 mph. Good luck and be smart and stay safe thumb

I don't see any reports of striper that far West. Am I wasting my time or do you think there is a chance of find some there?

Well you could put in at high port and get them right outside high port. Also along the cliffs going west you will be protected there. If you can make it out to the southern most islands early and get behind there you will be protected.. But I would not try to go to the north island in that small of a boat.. You will just have to judge it when you get out there and decide what to do.

Also i don't know if there will be any but there might be. Put in at Eisenhower park by the dam and run west along the cliffs. You will be protected there as well Catfish should be all over the lake

As for Little Mineral-I have an 18 1/2ft boat and put in at Little Mineral a couple of weeks ago. Saturday was a strong North wind and Sunday was a strong South wind. (approx 15mph with gusts) And I can tell you it was rough going on the whole creek-yes, I could find spots to get out of the wind but getting back and forth to those spots was a real pain and severely limited where I could really fish. Avoid LM if you can. I think the 377 idea is good with Highport hugging the south shoreline as a second decent option. Probably more fish around Highport than 377 area.....and worse case scenario you can fish inside the Highport tires/marina for catfish.

I understand the urge to fish, so be safe out there.

Let us know how you do, I have always heard fish the wind blown shore. But with this much wind, you may not be able to get to the far north side of the lake. So it will be interesting to see if you find stripers in the river channel by Highport. However, with the islands just outside Highport, you should be able to fish some of the wind blown sides of the islands.

Check out the kayak forum, they have been killing them on Texoma around the islands.

This time of the year the stripers will be in the river channel outside of highport. We got 11 last time out only 400 yards form highport in the 60 foot of water.. I got a 10 pounder right in the entrance last year. Look for the birds
