For the big bull reds Oct is the best month of the year but Nov can be awesome too. Been going every year in Oct for about seven years now. No other place in the world compares for numbers of big bulls in shallow water on bass tackle.

Call me and I'll tell ya about it. We are headed down Oct 28th.

Theophille and Eilene run a great operation.

Typically the latter part of October is what I have heard. I have also heard a few reports that this year is running 7-10 days early. I hope so since we are going second week of October.

Good Fishing To Ya,
Ruben

Ruben, did you guys go to Venice ? If so, are you back yet ? I'm planning to take my boat, in about a week. I'd like to hear from you. I have always fished with guides in the past, in Venice. (it is a LOT of water) chuck

Ken, when you get back from Venice, would you contact me. I have fished Venice (with a guide) for three years. I'd like to take my boat, but the Mississippi River is HUGE in that area and there are lots of places to get in trouble. The Lighthouse Inn is a decent place to stay. chuck

We are here now. Got here Sun afternoon. This is our 6th or 7th trip here in Oct and it just keeps getting better. We fished a long day yesterday with Capt. Allen Moreau. He specializes in reds and other inshore species. When the day ended yesterday he showed me the clicker counter and it read 145 and that is just the reds.

We do not count trout, flounder, catfish or anything else. We come to Venice for one thing and one thing only; Redfish. We had 18 bulls yesterday. A bull red is any redfish over 27". Two were over 40 inches. The biggest was 26.5 on the Boga Grip.

Send me a PM if you want more information. Just don't expect to get a good guide here in October unless you book now for next Year. That's what we do. Allen is the best we have ever used. He will not sit on a spot unless you are catching reds. Other guides we have used know the area but they will sit on a spot as long as you are catching any type of fish.

The speckled trout fishing is excellent here too. They're just not my cup of tea. We come here to catch redfish on bass tackle. Lighthouse Lodge is probably the best place to stay. I'm sitting here in the lobby typing this while I wait for my fishing partners to wake up. We are fishing half a day with Allen today then headed home.

Eddie Berger is probably the best for offshore fishing for tuna or other blue water stuff. I've not used him but Shane Moore of SW Parts has and speaks very highly of him.

Had 91 Reds yesterday up to 25 pounds. Got off to a slow start but made up for it on one little grass point. Caught 38 reds as fast as we could get a bait back in the water from 6 to 25 pounds!! I would post pix but they are a pain....

I fished it in July of 2012 for two days and we caught over 100 fish each day. It was miserably hot, but man what a trip. Got spooled once on 50lb braid. Guide caught one red that was 48" long. He ate a spook! Caught some nice trout the first day, and mostly redfish the 2nd, but no bass. My ribs were brused. Ive seen those shows with Jose Jawhebie when he was still alive fishing there in January and February. Unless it's flooding you can go there and catch fish year around. Go to Venice Beach Marina and eath the Poy Boy Shrimp Sandwich and a cup of Gumbo!
