Bam! Full pool is ~94 ft The Nueces really is an amazing watershed and under ideal conditions can catch a tremendous amount of water for most of it being in a desert. Fish spawns for all species will be amazing this spring and should lead to great fishing in two years. I copied this for TPWD Mathis facebook page "We launched a boat at Lake Corpus Christi State Park today. Notice of the reopening of the boat ramps should come soon. TPWD will request stockings for largemouth bass for the Spring 2014 and again in 2015 if water level is good. Catfish, white bass, and crappie are not reared in our hatcheries but should do just fine recovering on their own. Should take about two years to start seeing a big difference in the fish populations"

Just look at the current lake level and it's at 87.19, still needs a little over 6 ft to go. It's great that Lake Corpus Christi will be full again.

I also grew up fishing that lake. Since moving to the houston area and the lake being low it has been a long time since i have fished it. It will be awesome once all this new water settles down and clears up.

I am driving up to the lake today to look at all the ramps. Most, if not all should be wet by now. If so, I will be launching this weekend to look over the "NEW" lake Mathis.

Installing an 1198 on the skeeter tonight so the big will be ready to fish on Tuesday! I grew up in Portland. Most of my family still lives there but i have been in Katy for 5 years. We had a lake house on Mathis as far back as i could remember, but when the levels dropped a few years back we quit going and my uncle moved into the lake house. Used to be there or choke every weekend. You are right coleto is a different animal but i like the lake alot. The club i am in up here is fishing our last tournament on coleto in a couple weeks. I have done well over the years with weightless flukes in the grass.

Just got back from Mathis state park. Both ramps are open for business and the water is still rising. They are letting a little water through the dam to keep all that new water from impacting the dam to hard. There is still a lot of water in the river.

As low as the lake has been of awhile, it's gonna be a bit before the fishing bounces back. Imagine a a small amount of fish scattered over a whoooole bunch of new water. However the spawn will be killer
Only thing that scares me is how fast will we suck it down without a healthy water level at choke to back it up?

With all the fracking going on down there, plus all the lawn watering in CC it won't take long to start dropping! Five feet is a lot of water still, and if it's slowed we still need rains to keep it up. Just hoping it holds enough to allow fishing this spring. There was still a lot of fish left in the lake, and they will still swim upstream to spawn.
