The Nueces River at Three Rivers is suppose to crest this weekend at 40 ft. With all the water flowing down the Nueces, this will fill up Lake Corpus Christi. I'm hoping to make a trip down to Rockport in about 2-3 weeks to do saltwater water fishing and i might stop by the state park at Mathis on my way back to Austin and stay for a couple of nights. It would be a great way to clean the boat after being in the saltwater and plus the fishing should be good.

It's a shame that Choke Canyon will not get any of that water. However this should help the white bass run during the late winter. Side Note: Great that CC will get a super charge.

Stupid Rule they have: an equal amount of water that comes into Mathis must be released down stream. Dumbest thing I ever heard of.

At least it will give us guys down here on the coast a place to go close by again, besides Coleto Creek. A close-to-full Lake CC with moderate bass fishing is better than the current status of Choke Canyon.

Man i havent fished that lake in probably 6 years. The fishing will be good if it comes up a bit more. i imagine there is alot of new brush for them to hide in the shallows.

Most of the lake bed has been exposed for at least a couple years now, except for the very lower end.

I am going to hit that lake as soon as the water reaches the ramp. Been over two years since I could launch there. I only live 15 minutes from the state park and used to fish the lake at least 3 times a week. Now, we need water in Choke, Falcon, Amistad to make it great again.

How much more does it have to rise to make the ramp usable?

I looked this morning on the lake levels website, and it was 8 feet low and rising. The weather man last night reported that the lake is supposed to be brim full by the weekend when the rest of the runoff reaches the lake. That is the best news I've heard and it's like getting a Christmas present in October....White bass here I come!!!!
Just one more cast!

Hey Jimbo, When do you think the best time to start fishing for white bass will be early, mid or late Jan,Feb. I can't wait. It's been too long!

We all need to contact TPWD and ask them to restock Mathis this spring. I was raised on this lake and it was fantastic two years ago before the city of cc pulled the plug on her. I caught more fish there then I have in years. I sure hope she can bounce back.
News out of cc said the park would be open this weekend and I think 10' low is the cut off for launching.
Be carefull if you do get on the water. There will be plenty of floating lumber in the water!!
