My experience is that you get twice as many bites with a 1 oz weight as you do with a smaller weight. Part of what makes the C-rig so effective is the big weight crashing into stuff on the bottom and kicking up the silt.
I use a 1 oz bullet weight in water as shallow as 6 feet.
Try it.

Year around and, like Ken, seldom do I throw one without a 1oz. tungsten weight.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

So... the $$$ follow up question...
with so many recommendations for a fluke... is there a color that tends to be the most successful?

Ill throw it when satan gets ice water. I hate the ball and chain. Absolutely hate it. I do not disagree, it does catch fish, but for me it's not something I throw often. Rather throw other techniques I'm with you, I detest that thing. I keep one tied on and when nothing else will work I throw it but I can't stand it. I have a hard time detecting bites on it deep and I hate gut hooking a fish because I am not eating them so I want them to swim away healthy.

any time and often. Dont use the big arse egg sinker rig, use a 3/8 tungsten / swivel / 2-1/2' long leader / 1/0 hook with a Zoom swamp crawler, dip 1/8 " of the tail in spike it, catch fish.

I just started throwing the c-rig. And two of the four fish I've caught have been gut hooked because I couldn't detect the bites. I haven't been able to get back on the bank to work on my technique yet. Hope it improves.

I have caught them throwing it up into a foot of water. I like using a fluke, seems to work better for me.

Go to Lake Athens, put you some flourocarbon line on, or 15 lb big game green colored line, put a watermelon color of anything on your C-Rig and learn what it's all about. Hit every point on the right as you are heading towards the dam.
