Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Greatness!
Now that you asked I got to thinking about the first one (fish).
It was a ranch stock pond near Navasota. Purple worm. Don't remember much about the fish other than it was so big in relation to me that I had to turn away from the tank, put the rod and reel in front of my right shoulder and walk him out.
Page 2.
Once I got him to the bank I turned around to see my catch stumbled and fell right into a fresh cow patty.
Won't ever forget it!

My first bass was on a Rooster tail on Priest lake in the northern Idaho panhandle.

My first bass caught by myself was when I was 4 or 5 with live bait either minner or crawled don't remember. My dad didn't let me fish with his lures. I try to keep the lures with the big nasty trebles away from the kids, but they are welcome to try almost anything. That's also why I have a big collection of cheap spinning rods instead of a couple nice baitcasters!!!

That's great! Good for all of you. I hope they are hooked.
I am lucky enough to not remember my first solo. My grandmother got me started so early I can't remember exactly. We fished! She was awesome. Started with a cane pole and "cork" (actually a red/white bobber - but we didn't call it a "bobber". I thought that sounded a little sissy). We caught a lot of black bass and crappie - Nana always called'em WhitePerch.
She did good for me and now you have for the Boys!!!
