I just want to be clear. The places I've suggested on Rayburn are in the National Forest. They are not campgrounds or parks. Primitive camping. No water, showers or toilets. No Nuthin'.lol
but they have a couple water spigots throughout the facility correct?

Come on down to ET. Sam Rayburn is in the Angelina National Forest. Calhoun Point, the Black Forest and Caney Creek are places I've done a lot of wade fishing. Camping is allowed at the roads ends in these areas. These places are all in the same area. It's about a 20 min. drive from Calhoun Point to Caney Creek. The Black Forest Community is between the two.
Are you talking mud creek road, area? That is some good fishing by boat.

re: honda's on the beach. when you get to the gate, there is a really nice lady that will tell you everything you need to know, condition-wise Typically in the summer the tides are small, so that little car will run good in the DAMP sand. not the dry, not the wet. you will most likely be able to drive S. to the 5-mile sign lots of opportunities. wade to the 2nd gut & cast. water is normally crystal clear, & swimming is outstanding! bring a tent & camp. gate doesn't open till 7am just be smart & don't take chances, it's patrolled & theres good people around if you get in a jam outside that sign, you're on your own. TOTALLY!

but they have a couple water spigots throughout the facility correct? No. These spots are in the Forest. Just open areas on the lake to camp. You have to pack it in/out, but they are great places to wade fish.

If you camp at Mud Creek and wade all the way around the point and back, you could easily burn half a day or more. I like to put my kayak in at the end of the road at Mud Creek and paddle around to Julie Creek. I like those big willow trees in the back of the cove. Plus, it's less than a mile out to the 147 bridge. I'm guessing you haven't always been from NM?! Ha!

Don't waste your time at SPN go the extra 2 1/2 hrs and goto South Padre. You can access the beach for $5 and camp and fish all you want. the fishing has been good lately with my friends catching sharks, trout and some reds in the surf. Its way better than the corpus beach.. I wouldn't go back to corpus if you paid me..

Broken Bow Lake in Oklahoma is a beautiful lake and a lot of stuff for the kids to do. Good trout fishing below the dam or bass fishing in the lake. Water is cold and clear.
To whom much is given, much is required.

I like your choice for the coast. Also, South Llano State Park would be nice this time of year. Not near as humid as East Texas. Springfed river full of Bass, catfish, and sunfish. Lots of shade. Might want to check for burn bans before you light a fire to fry over.
