I am looking for the best national forest (prefered) or state park to camp and fish in. Looking to catch some fish I can fry up by the campfire. any ideas?

btw i have no boat, just waders

Seeley Lake in Lolo Nat'l Forest (Montana). Worked there as a volunteer in the river campground when I was 12.

cleburne is nice, but its 40 min from my house. looking for a 4 day getaway. i live in fort worth. should have mentioned that

Padre Island NS, especially if you have 4WD

Lake Powell, UT.

Ouachita/Ozark NF's just 5 hrs away (pretty much occupies 1/3 of the state of Ar.)

Buffalo National Park

Not sure about "best", but if you camped at west burns run on Texoma you could potentially bank fish from the spillway, down the entire damn to east burns run and all the way to the end of West Burns run. That would give you a quite a bit of variety - probably 3 miles of shoreline. Long sand beaches, sand points dropping straight down to the red river channel, shallow and deep rock banks. You could also fish the river side of the damn and walk a good ways down river. I'm not sure you could fish it all by foot in 4 days. Its a lot of area to cover. You could also rent a kayak at Eisenhower Yacht club. If you just want to relax the sand beaches at East Burns run are some of the best on the lake. Bait store, restaurants, and wal mart are just 3-4 miles up the road.

Come on down to ET. Sam Rayburn is in the Angelina National Forest. Calhoun Point, the Black Forest and Caney Creek are places I've done a lot of wade fishing. Camping is allowed at the roads ends in these areas. These places are all in the same area. It's about a 20 min. drive from Calhoun Point to Caney Creek. The Black Forest Community is between the two.

i really want to go to padre island and surf fish but i drive a honda civic right now. is this feasible?

I just want to be clear. The places I've suggested on Rayburn are in the National Forest. They are not campgrounds or parks. Primitive camping. No water, showers or toilets. No Nuthin'.lol
