BASS made the right call on the punishment. A rule was broken, and its not the first time such a thing has happened. But there are better venues to fish without stupid laws until the law is changed.

Seems like an awfully tough penalty.

Wonder who protested?

Wonder who'll get his spots?

All the anglers are fishing the same rule in this tournament. This kid is the real deal and he will be around for quite a while and I expect he will bounce back well, probably win the next one.

What would stop an angler in this situation to set waypoints on their Lowrance / Humminbird GPS that would show you a NO CROSS LINE? if you know you are fishing close to the line?

If you look at the bottom of the standing you will see another angler with no weight posted. I think he may have been turned in and then that angler informed BASS about Brandons mistake. From what I hear anyway.
Guys I fished and ran tournaments up there for 15 years you need to consider yourselves down here very lucky you don't have to deal with that [censored]!!

I'm a Brandon Palaniuk fan, it was an honest mistake. Up to the angler to know the exact rules and to exactly follow them, don't blame the state or BASS because Brandon made a mistake.

In one sense Brandon is taking it like a man considering he probably lost $100k and Classic birth, but I would have liked to see him not make half excuses "only 100 yards over border", "only culled once", "already had 18.5 pounds"... etc.

"I [censored] up and no excuses" would have been better.

If y'all saw how much water is up here, and the amount of use these lakes get you'd understand some of the rules. Minnesota is dealing w a lot if noxious and invasive species as well as a very intensive stocking program to keep up with the use. Fish take longer to reach maturity, u can catch and release immediately all u want, the seasons are designed to protect fish while they spawn. Until u understand that it's different, it's easy to say its dumb. The best part? Most of the locals HATE bass, and they'll tell u where to go, what to do. Most guys only fish them when the walleye bite is slow. Speaking of that, I'm goin to chase some smallies!

The logical statement is appreciated! Minnesota has some excellent largemouth fishing, but different regulations have to apply to different landscapes (especially where bass isn't the #1 sought after sport fish). Waters are quite different up there.

As for Brandon, the guy messed up, he admitted it, and it cost him. I doubt he is the only guy in the tourney that made the mistake. He was on top, which meant more people were paying attention. Shoot, if it were cloudy a GPS reading could have temporarily given him the impression that he was within bounds.

I am sure certain Texas lakes no nothing of the seasonal pressure that Minnesota might get 4-6 months out of the year. Fork and Rayburn never get a break year round.
I will give you the climate and slower yearly growth due to temps up there but the pressure comment is almost funny considering how some of our lakes get beat on 12 solid months. How many 500-1000 boat tourneys do MN lakes have again as well?

What an idiotic remark. He clearly stated he was unaware he was in minnesota.

+1 ignorant remark.

BASS & FLW just need to stay away from fisheries that have these gray areas looming around them. It's just too much of high stakes game to have something like this come into play.

On a side note, I can't help but see some irony to all this since it appeared Aaron Martens was about to have yet another 2nd place bridesmaid finish. Maybe 'ol Biffle will spoil another for him when it's all said and done.....
