Just tried Jimmy John's for teh first time, great sub. They make their own bread which is a substantial plus to any sub.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

There used to be a small place in a gas station run by brothers on the southeastern corner of the Great Southwest and I-20 intersection. You'd have a hard time convincing me that there were any Philly cheesesteaks better than the ones I had there.
Thundercloud in Austin is decent. Dunno what all the fuss is about, but it's alright. Definitely alot of jewelry and ink. Firehouse and Jimmy John's is also decent, but I've been in love with Jersey Mike's subs for quite a while. Tried their chain store in Houston though, and it definitely wasn't nearly as good as the one in Dallas. Funnily enough, the subs I had at the one is Nashville were probably the best subs I've ever had, better than even the original location. They all fresh bake their bread daily, but the interesting thing is that they will close when they run out of bread. They only bake in the morning, so there have been a decent amount of times the place has been closed by 5 p.m. Best time for a sub is lunchtime, right after the bread has a little bit of time out of the oven.

For a chain I like Lenny's. But I really only like the regular Italian. It's what i get everytime.

I took my father in law to Donnie's in S. Arlington for a cheesesteak after we got done crappie fishing on Sunday. He said it was the best cheesesteak he'd ever had. Coming from a man who has traveled all of the world and been extensively stationed on the eastern seaboard in his 25 years as an MP I'd say that was probably pretty high praise.

Wonder why Thundercloud hires all those creepy kids with stainless steel face jewelry? Who else are they going to hire in Austin?

Jersey Mike's has ruined me as far as chains go. I can't even look at another chain store sub.

It is not a sub, but Brookshires Grocery makes a really good sandwich on the spot at their deli. Meat of your choice (They stack it on, too.), cheese of your choice, wheat or white bread, and all the fixings with a small bag of chips for about $5.00. It is a lot better than any of the sub/sandwich chains for the same price.

If we're county cheesesteak, Fred's in Plano cannot be beat.
