I just gotta ask, how the hell does this happen? Everyone knows about the theft problem at Fork (not a knock on the OP). How is it possible the sheriff doesn't have a presence at these large tourneys? From the outside looking in, it doesn't sound like the law enforcement in the area is very proactive. And after that open letter pandering for money last week, you would think they would make a little effort.
If I'm off base here tell me. I know you can't stop all crime. But you don't even have a chance if there aren't LEOs present. I agree, they, Theives and LEO know .when these events are taking place.

You would take someone's life over a graph? Damn right I would.... Anyone stealing anything from me can expect being shot at. If more of us would would shoot more of them, then maybe they would think twice about stealing.

Man, sorry to hear it. These guys do sound organized. Seems like a few undercover, or bait type situation would be productive. I bet if you nail a bunch of em, it may scare the rest of them off. Why doesn't the Sheriff's office, and city care to do anything about it. Seems like it wouldn't take too much to round a few of these crooks up. Hopefully it wont take someone getting hurt, and a boater catching a case for hurting said person.
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

You would take someone's life over a graph? I don't care if someone steals a bottle of water from me. It's still theft. Over the years I've had my last 3 houses broken into 4 times. I HATE thiefs. They are the lowest scum on earth. So yeah you are brave enough to steal from me, you better hope I don't catch you in the act or there will be a policeman telling your family your dead. Sorry but it's our civil right to protect ourselves and our property in the great state of texas. Now if someone needs help or needs something and I can help, just ask flat out. I know from experience either we protect our property or no one will. The 4 times I've been robbed NOTHING was ever found or probably done about it.
I can backlash toilet paper.

It is up to you to protect your property. Put your things away and this wont happen. A huge part of a "Cop's job" is to have a known presence to give the community a feeling of security as well as to be a deterrent to criminals. When the thieves know the local authorities do not have a strong presence, they have zero fear of arrest and do as they like. A good mix of fear of authorities as well as fear of armed citizens is the best deterrent.

This is not thinly hot spot fro thieves, there are so many there is no way a SD could have a staff large enough to cover them all.

Leave your stuff out, get it stolen. Then it's the cop's fault. Ridiculous. This is 2013, not leave it to Beaver days. Protect your property or lose it.

I am going to say this, I think law enforcement should have a presence simply because this is probably the biggest thing out there this weekend. Law of averages. I also think the op knows he should have put his stuff up. He got careless and something happened.should event have a guard, maybe. I also feel pretty sure that the marinas out there need to pay a lot. Closer attention to who is coming and going. What reason someone is there, etc. I have owned businesses for 10 years and have not had a vehicle break in reported to us yet. We have cameras, we ask questions of those who don't seem to need to be there and I can be a real &$&$ when needed. This is not their first issue, they should expect it and watch for it. Sadly I think it could also be someone fishing. That would be pretty easy.

You would take someone's life over a graph? You bet I have alllready loaded the back of a car with 00 buck as it was going out my grive in wee hours of the morning. The alarm on the carport where I keep my boat went off and I went out with my double and loaded the backend. Onley regret I had was I pulled both barrels at rhe same time.
