I also use bait casting for both.

No problem. You can have all those 12" fish. day in and day out bigger baits simply catch bigger fish more consistently for me.

I use both. . .occasionally. The drop shot - for punching grass mats, very short tag, no more than 6 inches. I would use the shakey head more but I fish around too much vegetation and that thing is like an anchor in grass. Both on baitcast, the dropshot with heavy line.

I throw bigger shakey heads on baitcasting gear and whack some very good fish. you can put 10 inch worms, full size brushhogs etc on the bigger heads and it's just a different look from traditional texas rigs. I also use alot of smaller heads on spinning rods but i happen to love to catch fish on a spinning rod. I've had some days where that's the only thing you can get bit on is a shakey head. i don't do drop shot much at all though. I'm like you guys in that i would rather cross their eyes with a 1/2 ounce jig but somedays that just isn't an option if you want to get a bite and the shakey head is perfect for that. My favorite techines are the bigger heads with a Hag's Tornado.....dynomite

It's situational too. Fishing a 5 fish stringer tournament on Fork the shaky head can be your friend at 2 pm when you need a couple more unders.

Pretty sure the Op was talking about a true finesse size presentation since he mentioned spinning rods. I will say again the finesse presentation will occasionally catch a big fish but not consistently. The upsized rigs are just what i alluded to in bigger fish biting bigger baits consistently.

One thing is certain.....there's been alot of money won in tournaments on finesse shakey heads. They have saved the day and made alot of checks for alot of tournament guys.

Drop shot does tend to catch a lot of dinks but it has its moments . Just another tool in the toolbox and yes they will catch bigguns

BTW- for anyone looking to purchase a good dropshot rod look into the st croix mojo drop shot rod .... By far the best for the money

I love a dropshot but don't throw a shakey head.

People must be pretty ignorant to think that a shakey head can't catch big fish consistently.

I've never tried a dropshot but a shaky head is a killer. It can be done on a bait caster but i would rather use spinning gear.

I have caught fish on both. Tried the drop shot once last summer, caught a few dinks in a short amount of time, but havent tried it since. I do use a shakey head, but have switched to a 733 casting rod for them. I use spinning gear for white perch only.

I don't normally fish a shakey head or dropshot rig but I do fish with spinning tackle more than most. As already mentioned, when you are needing another fish or two, or dealing with tough post frontal conditions, you can't beat a spinning outfit with 6-8 lb test line and a finesse worm. I primarily use it on the local river to catch numbers and have fun(that's why I go fishing). Back when I used to fish tournaments, I would use it to fish a wacky worm mostly and it always came through for me. Awesome technique when it is tough fishing...don't know why it works so well, but I don't go fishing without a spinning outfit anymore....it has saved a many a fishing trip.

I don't always fish a shakey head, only when I'm alone or with somebody.

I always have a shakey head tied on and throw it often...I throw it on a baitcaster.

I don't throw a drop shot much, but should be throwing it more.
