My pricing data shows Honda as highest priced outboard followed by Evinrude, Yamaha then Mercury in that order.

My friend just got a new Ranger and he got the Yamaha because it was $3000 cheaper then the Mercury.

Is that Mercury Verado vs. Yamaha SHO (4stroke vs 4stroke) or Mercury ProXs vs Yamaha SHO? grin

The weight of a Honda 225 is 588lbs a Yamaha SHO is 505lbs.

That is a HUGE weight difference in a bass boat...

I got word from a reliable source, Honda is about to market the Bass fishing community by storm. Dealers will sell, if Honda markets. I love my new Merc 250 pro xs, but I would be lying if I said I thought it would take 10,000 + hours like a Honda will. I'll take the extra 80 lbs for 9,000 more trouble free hours.

Honda is the most expensive engine on the market. Very good warranty & quality, but unimpressive design, performance, and support. It is basically a car engine turned sideways.

Yamaha is the next most expensive engine followed by the other three (Suzuki, Merc, and Evinrude - all pretty close and price can vary depending on the engine and the dealer.

In my situation the 80lbs is canceled out by my ability to carry less gas and no Oil Tank. I have 2 separate fuel tanks. A large 30 gal in the back and a 15 gal in the front. I can run just as far on my 15 gal tank as I could with my Yamaha ProV 200. So I cut out 30 gal gas weight of 7.5lbs = 225 lbs. OR if I need to make a really LONG run I can fill it up and pass ALL the gas stations on the water! bannana2
AND,
With the new Honda 250's performance of 72-75 on a 21' Legend I would not consider that tooo shabby of performance.

I honestly believe that Honda CAN compete with the other motors on the market. They ALL have their strengths and weaknesses. The main problem will be to have a boat manufacturer that will allow the Honda. Most boat manufacturers are already "married" to a Motor. Phoenix had a good setup with a Honda and was a very good performing boat but they have since gone with Mercury.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. I have a 2006 Honda BF150A 4 stroke on a 2006 Triton TR-186 with over 189 hours on the meter.

Outstanding gas mileage, quite, reliable, ZERO problems. I use Amsoil WCF 10-40 and Amsoil Marine Gear Oil every year and it just goes and goes.

This is my third bass rig and the last!

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that BassCat will rig a Honda as well.

Great video!
