Does anyone have a bass rig with Honda power? With the reliability of a Honda, and 4 strokes on the rise in popularity, I see these motors as a viable option for bass fishermen. Are there disadvantages that I am not aware of? I am surprised not to see these motors catching on. Is this what you are asking about??? Been running a Honda since the gas prices went sky high. Improved my fuel efficiency 2 1/2 times over my old Yamaha ProV. Only lost 3 mph on my rig, (could have experimented with a new prop and a highspeed lower unit and got the speed back.) The newer models are even better. The weight of a Honda 225 is 588lbs a Yamaha SHO is 505lbs. Uses no oil. Just change it once a year like a car. In fact my motor is the same as a Honda Oddysey Mini Van, just turned up sideways. The dealer I use showed me the printouts from 2 different Coast Guard boats. One had over 10,000 hrs and another had over 7,500 hrs and NO motor problems. The only problem he said they had was when they ripped off the lower units on the Oyster Beds! Check out http://www.bbcboards.net/honda-motors/. Legend boats is one of the ones putting Honda's on bassboats now. (Charlie Ingram and Ray Brazier on Fishing University, and Paul Elias with BASS are using them now.) They are getting over 72mph and more when they get fully "broken in". The Prop is not a problem. It is a 15 1/2 diameter prop but I have run some others of the normal size but there is soooo much torque it needs to be a big blade prop. Moter HAS to be run higher than normal. Honda 4 Strokes are not the same when it comes to height and prop like a 2 stroke. We run higher and typically lower pitch. I am considering going down to a 21 or even a 19. The RPM's will go well over 6000 rpm and not limit out. Not sure what the top limit is. Nobody has ever been able to say. Ray Braizer (Honda Rep) said we can go up to 6400. I am at 5600 so I have a ways to go! They are very quiet. Can talk to my coangler going down the lake without having to yell. The Honda is way more reliable than the "Gonna Blow SHO". Honda is not pushing the Bass Boat market and are really sticking to the Salt Water market. Not sure why. They make a good product that could compete with the other motors and with the EPA requirements. You would have to check for any local dealers close by to your location. PM me if you have any other questions. ron

My buddy has a 40hp Honda outboard on a little aluminum bass boat and he loves it. He can fish for months without filling the boat up with gas. And right after he bought it (used) we were about to run to a different spot, but when he turned the key it made a grinding noise. Turns out the motor was already running and we didn't even notice it because it was so quiet!!

Honda would be my first choice if they were offerered on a bass boat, just about non-existant on freshwater tho, there is a vid @ the bottom of Elias running his, seems super quiet. http://www.bassmaster.com/video/2013-eli...-venues-basscam

Awesome motors. I remember when they first came out, and some pros on the old Bassmaster Top 100s (Tour?) ran them. I was in Guy Eaker's boat, I think it was, that Honda was so quiet it was unbelievable but it was about the size of a VW Beetle and HEAVY. Are they smaller now?

The smooth quiet of those motors have always made me take notice. As a paddler I've always thought if I were to go to power boats it would be with a honda.

I have used a Honda on boats in Canada. The guides up there never turn them off. They use them to troll backwards like we would use a trolling motor. And they are the quietest motor I have ever heard. You don't even know its running. They swear by the up there because they are so dependable.

When it comes time, my next boat will have one on the back. Solid proven and bulletproof.

Does anyone know the pricing difference for a Honda vs Merc and Yamaha My pricing data shows Honda as highest priced outboard followed by Evinrude, Yamaha then Mercury in that order.
