Falcon fish was mother of new Lake Naconiche record largemouth bass

ATHENS�On December 4, 2004, Jerry Campos was fishing for largemouth bass on Falcon International Reservoir when he caught a 14.28-pound fish that became ShareLunker 370. On April 13, 2013, Allen Lane Kruse of Nacogdoches caught a 12.54-pound bass from Lake Naconiche that has been submitted as a water-body and catch-and-release record for the new impoundment near Nacogdoches.

The connection? DNA testing revealed that ShareLunker 370, which spawned at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) in Athens, is the mother of the Lake Naconiche fish. If Campos had not entered his fish into the ShareLunker program, Kruse would not have had the opportunity to catch his fish, because it would not have existed.

Good to see somethings are working. Not the same Jerry Campos that I know.

I was there participating in that tournament in Dec 2004 and Jerry wanted to just weigh the fish and release it. I then remembered I had just worked an event that was giving out cards with info on it if you caught a SAL and what to do. I encouraged Jerry to submit her to the program and if I could call Dave Campbell with the ShareLunker program and that Saturday afternoon they were on their way with the tank. We transported the fish to Falcon Lake Tackle where then owner Larry Bridgeman and Jerry watched over it till Dave and the tank arrived. It was around midnight when they arrived and got her stabilized to make the trip back north. On Sunday I spoke with Dave several times to check on her progress. She was eventually released back into Lake Falcon after she spawned.
