I would def do a pier. Most places you wouldnt be able to cast far enough from the beach to reach fish other than croaker and gafftops/hardheads without having a pair of waders. Or you could just be tougher than me and go out there in shorts or whatever haha.

Thats funny! I'm in San Marcos too!! And was about to ask the same question. I have been going to Mustang Island surf, because thats what I'm used to in fishing Cape Cod. But the Texas surf is TOTALLY different!

I love the surf, but would like to try some bays for a change. I'm all about wading

Horace caldwell pier in port a is my favorite, San Juan restraunt best mexican food and at agreat price, ate there every day for a week.

Packery Channel and the areas inside the Mustang Island barrier are great right now. Lots and lots of flounder and drum!

Humble channel is a good place too. There are piers and wading areas. Red Dot pier has food, drinks and a restroom....and benches on the pier.

Yes...just don't go past the channel markers...steep drop off. I personally fish from Red Dot.
