I would def do a pier. Most places you wouldnt be able to cast far enough from the beach to reach fish other than croaker and gafftops/hardheads without having a pair of waders. Or you could just be tougher than me and go out there in shorts or whatever haha.

I wanna go saltwater inshore , where should I go? Taking my 14yr son. I'm located in San marcos. Thats funny! I'm in San Marcos too!! And was about to ask the same question. I have been going to Mustang Island surf, because thats what I'm used to in fishing Cape Cod. But the Texas surf is TOTALLY different! I love the surf, but would like to try some bays for a change. I'm all about wading

Packery Channel and the areas inside the Mustang Island barrier are great right now. Lots and lots of flounder and drum!

Humble channel is a good place too. There are piers and wading areas. Red Dot pier has food, drinks and a restroom....and benches on the pier.
