I can understand it if fish are floating.
But how do you know there is moss on the line without picking it up? You jug police be careful out there. I watch my jugs at all times and wouldn't take kindly to somebody picking my jug up to inspect for moss.

I have seen several moss colored jugs on lakes and leave them alone. Sometimes people set them out like that with no hooks to mark underwater humps, ridges, etc...for sand bass fishing and coordinates. I understand being frustrated about finding floating unmarked jugs, but tpwd has a job for a reason. Leave it to them. Want to be really productive? Call the GW when you see people harvesting fish illegally or suspect they are doing so. There are much bigger fish to fry that being the jugline gestapo. Maybe some of you should become game wardens, then you can dedicate all your time to pulling up every jug on the lake and checking for legality legally...just saying...

Someone touches one of my jugs and I see or know. with or without a fish on it hes gonna catch a beatin. You dont know when it was checked last.U could see it in the same spot for 2 months it could be checked 10 mins before or after you leave..someone cutting my jug is like me breaking your poles..(Irresponsible, no talent, redneck meat haulers have no business leaving their garbage in the same waters conservationists pay to protect)#1 No talent I know a 3 guys off the top of my head who have caught many fish R&R who jug fish so thats not true at all..#2 Id love to catch ya around one of my jugs. I am glad that I waited till this morning to re-read this whole thread. That was a solid 30 minutes of entertainment right there. Brownbag, I have run jugs in the past and have never lost one. I stopped running jugs when I learned how to big boy fish. You can have mine if you would like them actually. I didnt mean to offend anyone, its just that alot of the jugs I HAVE seen out on the water are usually not 100% legal. IF yours are, I wouldnt dream of touching them. I agree with you that they are YOUR property, and no one elses, and when used properly to each his own I guess. I still think its a waste of resources. No one needs catfish everyday... The feeding the family argument some make is ridiculous. WEll, tight lines everyone!

What are you getting so defensive about BBS? If you are fishing jugs responsibly I don't see that anything said here applies to you. Not sure why you are defending the irresponsible juggers. Maybe because some wana be CPR Nazi who cant think for himself and just echoes what people tells him called all liners "Irresponsible, no talent, redneck meat haulers" and said they are not conservationists when in fact everyone who puts money into fishing is a conservationist. I trotline 90% of the time because unlike a jug you cant just find it. Havent had one check in over 10 years dont let them stay out when they are not fishing and dont agree with leaving them out all the time, if you aint gonna run it dont use. But Im just plain sick and tired of Todd C, and people like him who think its gotta be their way. I dont like your kayack it should be illegal maybe Ill just run it over with my big boat and then call it a piece of trash floatin in the my conservationist lake and its poluting the resources and killing fish. We are all different you fish how you want and ill fish how I want. To each their own, fish how you want but do it legaly.

I think its hilarious that these antagonistic comments directed towards me only reinforce my first statement about the type of fisherman that put that [censored] in the lake. I think its also pretty damn funny to threaten to run someone over.. This guy must really be a stand up dude.. Once again, I would never run someone elses trot or jug lines.. I am entitled to my opinion just like you. But I am not going to run you over for runnin jugs. That I promise.. This forum is here to discuss and debate these topics. Thats what I was doing. Dont get butthurt.

I get upset on this subject because I have to believe that most of the folks on here are good honest people. Then they advocate theft, tangleing up other peoples property in their equipment, hauling it off, etc. It is the mindset that will cost us our freedoms. Everyone thinks, if I don't do it, make it illegal. Just don't understand.

I just don't get all this hoopla over one dead fish. One dead fish on a jug or trotline will NEVER harm the resource as much as guides taking 2-3 clients out and catching and keeping limits of fish on a regulat basis. Think how many guides are working and removing 50 to 75 fish each. I hate to see fish wasted, but one dead fish on a jug will never hurt the resource. If you catch a larger catfish and release it and it dies, isn't the end result the same? I see all the people getting all riled up over someone stealing a fishing rod, and yet openly admit they will cut, remove, or whatever someone's trot line or jug. Well folks, a thief is a thief is a thief. Get over it. Fishing is supposed to be fun, so go out and have fun. Stop looking for something to b**ch about.
Snowflakes and entitled brats will be the doom of America!

Here's one for you, I jug fish too and grew up trotlining. Yet I don't find any of this offensive as it doesn't apply to me. I know an abandoned or lost jug when I see one and I will pickup old jugs and cut old trotlines when I snag them. Anyone trying to say there are not people out there that are too dang lazy to pickup their jugs and trotlines after a weekend outing are just denying the obvious.

Just shows how rational the coment about us all being irresponsible no talent reneck meat haulers was.
Personaly I love kayaks just trying to show how ignorant and wrong he is.
I am definately a set liner. I do fish with rods too. I know how to and have caught several big cats on rod and reel. I am a conservationist, I put money in when I buy my license I rlease what Im not gonna eat I pick up trash that isnt mine I cut down old trotlines and jugs that I know arent fishing, For about 10 years I participated in a kid fish organization to get kids interested in fishing etc.
Hunters and fishermen are the first conservationists and are likely the best ones.

Gentlemen, the jug I pulled Saturday on Ray Hubbard was an estimated 2 miles north of the dam in the middle of the lake an easy 1 1/2 from the east and west shore with about 2" exposed to the surface. There was nothing else to mark/locate it. It was constructed out of 3" pvc and was "UNMARKED". This was the first "jug" I have ever messed with, and I only did so due to the damage it could do to a boat running on plane. I would have passed it by like I've done a hundred times if it had been a "bleach bottle" jug that won't damage a boat on plane. Again, I'm perfectly fine with jug fishermen. As stated in an earlier post on this thread, had it been marked, I would have notified the owner. If you feel I was wrong, so be it.

Tom..and anyone else who was in on this last night. I hope my point got across and there are no hard feelings All I was trying to say is that jugs may look like trash and the trash ones should be removed by a gw..but when u pull up to a jug.(not a dead fish or a fish about to die on it)and it is marked right and dated within 10 days of the set date..just leave it be..and IM SURE that tom or anyone on tff (catfish section) is not the kinda guy who pulls up to random jugs and just cuts them to be a *^&&*^&^%..

Yep a legal jug shouldn't be messed with and I personally never would. Now we need something else to argue about so I can get my last five posts!!!!
