Every year there is some cool new tourney outfit starting up with 15 divisions watering down the field. Probably be more starting up next year. Before long a 20 boat tourney will be a large turnout. If that's what the market wants, sure. But it won't happen, the better trails will draw more people and the others will die. If people don't like fishing 20 boat tourneys the trails will die until the market corrects itself.

Texas is a large state, these lakes are far apart, lots of fisherman near each lake..Many can't drive a long distance to fish a tournament. I don't see a problem. Only one tournament on Rayburn and Toledo..kind of unsually.

To draw a lot of boats tournaments are going to have to do like bass champs and go to a big bass tourney format and promote it as anyone can win regardless of skill or preparation.

The little stuff will always be around. What is hurting is there isn't any 'BIG' stuff anymore. It's all small and medium. No one can draw 100+ boats because it's split up between so many. 20-25 boats in most. A good turnout these days is 50 boats. Used to be 100+ boats in good fields.
TTZ does They run a great trail and If I end up in Austin would love to fish with them.

I remember about 5 or 6 years ago, Media would pull 70 boats in the Big D division.....

We got our start in 1984, even before the McDonalds tournaments. And back then, we were one of maybe three or four tournaments going on the same weekend in all of North Texas. Absolutely the number of tournaments held any given weekend today is way, way up therefore dividing the fishermen and the potential winnings at any one event. This weekend we will be celebrating our 30th Annual Tournament. It is a non-profit event we do just for the fun and fellowship with many of the staff and contestants that have been involved with us for from 1 to all 29 previous events. If you want to attend a fun Tournament with a lot of cash prizes (125+)and over 100 Door Prizes plus an emphasis on family and youth participation, come join us this weekend at Cedar Creek. 30th Annual KCKL 95.9 FM Big Bass Tournament And thanks to all our loyal anglers, sponsors, and supporters over the years. All the trails are watering each other down. The days of tournaments with fields over 50 are over unless you fish the dink derbies at Fork. We were well into the 60-70 team mark with LSS last year and felt pretty good about it. Now the 47 on Hubbard last weekend wasn't what we were looking for to start 2013. Hand me a couple more of those turnouts and I'll be a candidate for hanging it up. We all feel like we are adding some value or providing something unique. That's the problem and I guess I'm part of it. Lol. Ask any TD and they'll tell you they have their loyal anglers and they think they are on the right track.

As for the LSS, do you really believe a sponsor like Oakley would lend their good name to an amateur trail that was not THE most professional? Think about that for a few minutes before you answer. I've fished several of the Oakley BBTs hosted by Messrs. Jones, Gordon and crew. In my personal opinion, there is no other "trail" outside of the FLW Tour, Bassmaster Elites or PAA that come close to the professionalism of the LSS. I don't fish tournaments so take all of the above with that in mind.

We fished the LSS Tournament at Ray Hubbard last Saturday. It was our first LSS event, but not our last. Seemed very well organized and run. Amazed that it only drew the 47 teams, I expected 100+ guaranteeing a larger 1st Prize regardless of entries. The forecast of 35 mph winds didn't help. Keep up the good work.

All the trails are watering each other down. The days of tournaments with fields over 50 are over unless you fish the dink derbies at Fork. This was no dink derby. This past weekend in west Tx. 3 trails, on 3 different lakes. Biggest turnout 24 teams. 4 years ago one of the trails drew an average of 36 teams. Yes the multiple tours have watered it down and it won't get any better until they one of them resets their dates to avoid the others on the same weekend, at least out here.
Retirement best job ever.

Thanks for the kind words Fouz.... We have worked very hard for the past 7 years to build a first class tournament experience with each tournament series and special event we are associated with. Fouz mentioned "Oakley" and "Lone Star Series". Our team operates the "Oakley Big Bass Tour and Oakley Redfish Tour" which are national in scope, but start out each season here in our home state of Texas (Lake Conroe & Richland Chambers). We reside in DFW and also operate the "Lone Star Series, BPS Grapevine Series, BPS Garland Series, as well as special events such as "Kings of Cowtown, Kings of Dallas, Texas Basscat Owners, Take a Soldier Fishing, and many charity events each year. I will piggy-back on what Charley mentioned in his post and think most would be surprised of how little most tournament directors actually make and may ask why most of us do it. For most of us, we love hosting tournaments and work tirelessly to provide a quality experience. My friend Mark Jones works harder than anyone that I know in the fishing industry and gives so much time and effort to provide the best possible value and professionalism to the tournament angler, quite often taking a significant loss personally in the process, but he has a genuine love for our sport and what Mark and Keith Odom have built with the Oakley Big Bass Tour and their new Oakley Redfish Tour is simply beyond belief. In regards to lower turnouts equally lower payouts, ask the angler's that fished the LSS last Saturday at Ray Hubbard. Mark guaranteed the payout of $5000.00 to first place even though we only had (47) entries. We will continue to work hard to build our tournament offerings and continue to make improvements. Amen to tooo many & how does one person continue to outfish all the other 200 people fishing month after month - are they that much better ? lucky ? or maybe all the rest don't know how to fish - lots of things wrong right now I'd say If that's the case on your trail, there's a problem. Always thought that a payback of 75% to total weight and 25% to Big Fish awards would increase participation. It could give some backmarkers more incentive to pay to play and anyone out of it the first day could go out swinging for the fence the second day and try to get a shot at some better cash.
