I think the other side of the argument is being left out. Competition drives innovation, and gives people choices. If there was only one trail, they could charge as much as they wanted, fish only the lakes they wanted, not take care of the fish, pay back whatever they wanted, and everyone would complain about that. If people fish the circuits that are giving them what they want, then the trails that don't do that will go away.

In terms of being lucrative- multiply 20% of the entry fee (or whatever percentage the trail keeps) by the number of teams at each event, then subtract labor, gas, insurance, website expenses, advertising, etc, and there is a lot less than I believe most people think. A lot of hard work and TIME goes into running a tournament trail (or at least ours). Personally, I'm making about $3 an hour. I would not call that lucrative, but then again, I'm doing this because of a passion for fishing. I'm sure some trails are making a killing, though.

Just my 2 cents, and a different perspective.

Chris

All the trails are watering each other down. The days of tournaments with fields over 50 are over unless you fish the dink derbies at Fork.

All I know is there are a lot of people who fish. If everyone fished on the same weekend all Texas lakes would be crowded.

Thank you! My psychic powers weren't working!

For me, I don't fish tournaments to 'make' money. I have a better chance playing the lotto. I do it for the fun of competition so having low entry fees and corresponding winnings is ok with me. The only down side is there seems to be a tournament on every lake, every weekend so it DOES get crowded.

Every year there is some cool new tourney outfit starting up with 15 divisions watering down the field. Probably be more starting up next year. Before long a 20 boat tourney will be a large turnout.
