How could fingerling walleye be in the upper brazos . These pics look just like walleye just real small , unless there is a river minnow that looks similiar.I follow the TPWD website for stocks and see no indication of this. Are they stocking them as an experiment and not reporting it .Its just bizzare. Update i got an email from TPWD. From: inld <inld@tpwd.state.tx.us> To: donhull30@yahoo.com Sent: Monday, March 18, 2013 11:51 AM Subject: RE: Fish identification
Some of our biologists looked at the photo and it appears to be a little saugeye (a walleye-sauger hybrid). Which means it's a game fish and can't be used for bait. The minimum "keeper" size for saugeye is 18 inches, with a daily bag limit of 3 fish.
We aren't sure how it got there. Some walleye were stocked in this area in the 1960s and 1970s, and have been known to reproduce naturally. Our records don't indicate we ever stocked saugeye, but the biologists are pretty sure that's what this one is.
There is a picture link four threads down

Don't they need to live in cold water?

Hope it's not Snakehead. If it is he's releasing an illegal invasive species. Kinda look like a bowfin to me. Hard to tell when they're that small .But Walleye have a much taller top fin bowfin and snakehead have one long top fin.

sauger have no opalescent eye, & no white patch on anal fin, no way to tell with that little guy, but it's clearly a walleye/sauger

Sauger do great in dam tail races but I doubt they would flourish below PK due to our hot summer temps and nearly 0 flow except during generating times. Oh ya, plus the state has no Saugeye program!
