BTW Sabine River runs behind my house.....it's a nasty river if the river down there is like ours up here (above TBend).
I can barely get a flatbottom down it at certain times.
I wouldn't even let my fiberglass boat look at the river when I drive over! Nothing like that down here...the south end is plenty wide and deep with a bunch of bayous that branch off. As already stated, there are miles of river north of the Interstate 10 bridge before it gets smaller. The far north end above highway 12 bridge is like another body of water compared to the south end. These guys won't be there...

don't matter where these guys fish, someone always rips something off. I've seen then run WFO through Black Forrest in Rayburn, and totally ignore boat lanes on Toledo. I think the event was a great choice, highly unlikely, but definitely a challenge, as it should be.
Agree and feel the challenge will be entertaining for TV as well...

I think it is a good place for the event. It will test their skills for sure. Lots of planning and lots of strategies to consider. As far as boating hazards, that is part of the game that has to be considered also. Do you want to run recklessly WOT all the time and take you chances of having to be towed in and miss weigh in or do you take a more cautious approach.
Up to each person to figure it out. Should be interesting.

Just a stupid choice for an event! Especially for texas. It'll all work out fine...there will be a lot of high dollar gas burned, but we'll see some nice sacks brought in. But why choose a place like that its texas for crying out loud tons of way better fisheries.

is there no other lake in tx that they could have gone to. None that had the Casino's to pay for them to come there. It's all about money! I think it's a good idea for this level of competetion to be fishing on such a unique water system. Makes for more challenges. No past history for these guys to fall back on. Not just running down the lake and fishing like we usually do on regular lakes. I don't care about watching some Pro JUST throwing Cranks on rocky riprap, or etc.... Let's see who can do some strategy and planning. Throw in a few unique quirks and then finally see who "lands on their feet". How about some tidal influence to factor in too. True Pro's should be able to handle all this with their "eyes closed!"

The bad part is I feel like the bigger names have a feeling of "oh well, on to falcon" attitude about this one instead of the all or nothing attitude.

No casinos in Orange and that is who is hosting this, so not sure about the casino comment. I wouldn't say that it is ALL about money, but that ceratainly has to play a major role in the decision making. I think it's a good idea for this level of competetion to be fishing on such a unique water system. Makes for more challenges. No past history for these guys to fall back on. I agree that this is exciting for a spectator in that these guys have to show off their fishing skills. And for the most part, they won't be able to get by using their normal lake skills.

I grew up in Sulphur, La and fished the Lower Sabine river for 20 yrs. I have had 100 fish days when the tides and winds were right. I have heard everyone is running up the rivers, I would head south, then east up the Intercostal. There are untold bayous and drainage canals off of both sides that have not seen fishermen in 5 months if not years. It looks very much like Venus in these areas. The canals and bayous leading up to and around the Sabine Wildlife refuges are loaded with good bass. The reserve has been closed since Oct 15th, but opens on March 15th. Virgin Water. Look it up on Goggle. It is one area I have truly missed since moving away from Southwest La.
