Never, unless

1. the hook eye and hook point are not perfectly aligned

2. the bait is not hanging perfectly straight on the hook

3. or if I try and reel it to fast. all hollow bellies will roll if you try to burn them. slow roll just about a foot beneath the surface works best for me.

Also, on hooks like the Big Bites or Falcons, don't thread the bait onto the hook like you would a regular worm hook (point first through the nose). Instead, push the hook eye thru the botton center of the bait just back of the nose and then come out in the center of the nose. Some guys use a nail to make a hole first. Then tie your line. Then embed the hook point.

Hope this helps you. It can be a deadly technique this time of year. Especiallly around objects or grass.

For open water you might want to try a Basstrix hollow body with a Revenge Swim Bait Head. This will allow the maximum action of the swimbait. There are also weed guard heads available. In clear water you might try some InvisX line on those Basstrix.

Some new swim bait heads I just released.

These I have available in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz. All sizes come with a 5/0 Gama Super Line Hook.

Here is the same as above except with a skirt on it. I have these in 3/8 and 1/2 oz and also comes with a 5/0 Gama Super Line Hook.

This is called a Wobble Head. Head Wobbles from side to side and helps add a little action to the swim bait. Head weighs 1/2 oz and this also comes with a 5/0 Super Line Gama Hook.

This is the same as above except with a skirt on it. Also comes with a 5/0 Gama Super Line Hook but has what's called a Hook Extension on it. Makes the hook a little longer for bigger swim baits and also enables me to add a skirt to it.

Storm has a good affordable line of swimbaits with hooks ready to go out of box. Wild eye shad rattlin and suspending. These have worked good for me at Fork with the rip pause method.

Fringe Tackle makes some of the best Swimbaits around. They are high quality hand poured, custom colored swim baits that are great. Check them out by the link below. Give Jeff a Call if you want to talk about Swimbaits, this man knows his Swimbaits!

PS, There is not a better trailer out there also.

Try using a Trokar 3/0 Swimbait Hook for 4 in soft plastic swimbaits and a 5/0 Swimbait Hook for 5 in plastic swimbaits. These hooks are great, they are weighted and hold your lure on tightly. Make sure you screw the keeper into the head directly into the center of the plastic, if you can get it rigged correctly it will not spin with a slow retrieve.

Try using a "jig head" type hook.

Those Fringe Tackle Baits look good. Alignment is everything in terms of a swim bati running true. None will run corretly if this off...

ive had alot of success on the same money minnow and big bite hooks. but if its hooked wrong or if the bait gets bent for a long period of time it will stay bent.

Agreed on the rigging..has to be rigged properly...the only downside to hollow bellies is that they are rounded and when burned they roll...if someone could come out with a flat sided hollow belly let me know thanks! I have but takes way too much work to make 3!
